Right. had a good delve into this subject today. It appears that it's not so straight forwards with the latest HZ Super Cubs. The escape/receiver board being screwed to the battery box doesn't allow for taking it off and locating elsewhere because there is no flat surface on it that would make this possible? Unless someone on here can come up with a solution, I think I'll just buy 2 new stock size 1300mAh batteries and make do. In order to go say, 1500mAh I would have cut the back out of the battery box but I think this would make it very weak as well as moving the CofG off a great deal.

Cutting the back of the battery box hasn't affected my cub at all, but unsure if any extra vibrations may affect the SAFE system - mine is the older model and will take a 2200 with no issues this way, although I don't because a 10 minute flight is enough to be honest. I have 3 1350mah OverLander batteries that I use in the Supercub and give 10-12 minutes each, I save the bigger batteries for the more power hungry SportCub. I think you'll find ten minutes looking up is enough, then change batteries and go again. Currently looking for 3200-4000 3S batteries for the Bonanza

I did what sham did. No difference to cg and about half hour flying time with a 2200mah so I used to fly for about 15 minutes, land, have a f*g and a chat then away again for another 15 mins.

Thank's sham. Very likely go for that. I've been scanning physical size of battery as well, if I could find a battery that was thicker, I would look at that. The battery box would take a thicker battery its the length that causes the problem.

So do you have the later SC then? Did you cut out the back of the battery box and carve out more foam? What is the OA length of the batteries you use then? And does your escape and RX live in a little black box?

So this is my battery box. Moving the RX card looks a no go as its not in a box now. As I see it, the only way I can increase battery size to 2200mAh is to cut out the end of the box on the left of picture and carve into the foam? Wouldn't this make the plane tail heavy though?

It wouldn't make much difference to be honest, the cub is quite tolerant - although it won't hurt to check the COG before the first flight anyway now its painted... but why are you so set on increasing the battery size?
Fly the plane a few times, see what you think - you may decide to increase the battery capacity and you may not... but don't rush into it before its even seen the air.
Just my tuppence worth, feel free to ignore it if you wish.

Quite so sham. It feels like I bought the Cub at the wrong time. I reckon weather conditions down this way have only produced may be 2 or 3 flying days. Circumstances has ruled out 1 or 2 of those. So I guess frustration is partly to blame. Logistically, when I do take to the air, I will have to go by car several miles to a suitable field so I would like to have a couple, or at least two batteries available so as to make the day worthwhile. Taking that a step or two further, some might say that rather than buy stock size, I should have bought larger capacity batteries? All I am trying to do is prevent buying in error, and wasting money.
I take your very valid point though. Your post about the 1350mAh looks sound. Represent good value and due to their size, fit without alterations to the box. Thank's again for your advice.

Anytime... I understand, I'm quite lucky and my first flights were walking distance. I could recharge a single battery easily. But I've found a better field a few minutes drive away. The little Overlander batteries are really nice little things, one of my better purchases - and if you want to go bigger in future, you can - and still use the smaller ones I don't think anyone here will argue that having a few batteries available is a good thing! I have 6 to use between the two planes that give me about an hour of airtime without charging at the field - its nice. Soon going to add another 20 minutes to that for next season on a third plane. I know what you mean about wrong time of the year too, I bought my supercub about the same time last year and flew in conditions that weren't really suitable - turned out OK, but I really should have been more choosy about the weather for the first few!

A very thin piece of Balsa or even plastic can be mounted above the battery box and between the fuselage walls to mount the SAFE Board
It would be flat, in the same location and solid and not touching the battery box at all
Would allow battery box modification for larger batteries or installing the batteries different.
I use the same batteries and have not gone larger, really does not need it...depending on how you fly the Stock batteries can last 8 to 12 minutes sometimes more if you are flying higher and in calmer conditions. The Stock batteries fit tight in the Stock Box, but I have had no issues.
Just a thought on mounting the SAFE Rx....as long as it is flat and mounted solid as to not move in flight, it would work great and weight would not be noticed at all with the Cub...it can carry more weight than you think, plus CG would not be affected at all.
