So my first couple flights were horrible. I crashed twice. Second time the landing gear broke off. But I taped it back on. My next question is how do I take the spinner off because I think the prop shaft is a little bent wanted to take it apart to check it. How do you remove the spinner. Also my front cowl is cracked and has a couple pieces missing. Does this affect performance?

First mistake of a newbie is to not read through all the different thread areas here to become familiar with some of the most common problems and solutions. This one is posted here, but it is solely my own method of removal of the spinner. Hope this links okay. Any rate, don't overlook reading through the posts as they contain some really helpful information in them that can save you time and money in the long run. Or, you can be like the old me and continue to be too overly anxious to get out and fly to actually do that. :-) Good luck on your fix. Check the fuselage cowl area as well as that shaft for the prop. youtu.be/B-v9zkxORuc?list=UUF4HzyItz1sgMoNGj-18CTw

That wasn't horrible, that was normal. Seems everyone just thinks they'll go fly and never think about the consequences of learning. The first few weeks can be pretty hard on the plane and your ego. In beginning newbies need to buy shafts, cowlings, and props by the handful. You may think you are going to fly but what you are going to really learn about is glue, tape, and repair. You don't even need the cowl to fly. Looks ugly, but works fine. I have a crappy flier buddy that just gave up on them and doesn't bother anymore he went through so many.
Peel back the rubber 'wings' and unscrew it. Use force, it could be glued. Make SURE the gearbox and firewall are ok. Yes, the motor does appear to be crooked. It points down and right. That is also normal.
Broke off the landing gear? It goes up in a slot that is part of the battery box. Hard to do that. Bend, sure. Broke?!? It's possible you have some serious damage you are overlooking.
It seems like the new 'normal' is to go it alone. That's a hard way to learn....it'll cost you. If you know anyone that can fly and can help you out it'll save a LOT of grief and money. If not consider getting a flight simulator (SIM). Crash electrons until you get the hang of it. MUCH cheaper, easier on your ego, and faster to learn since you don't have to do all that repair stuff. They range from cheap and basic to very elaborate and expensive.

I checked over all the vitals it is good now taped the plastic pieces that hold the landing gear to the bottom of the plane.. i put it down really hard and the plastic broke and the gear came off. after all my minor fixes. I just took it out and just walked behind it and taxi up and down my side walk to get a feel for the turning and stuff. my ego is a little bruised. but now every time i taxi the plane goes straight for a bit nice and level then the wing just dives to the right and drags it.i stop correct it and it happens again is this normal?

First ...stop.....study the plane
Go to the motor first...take prop off and double check shaft...gears etc....
if Ok Great, if not repair or get new
Now go into the battery box, gear mount area..all plastic...Landing gear goes up into plastic inside foam at battery box area
Go on this forum and you tube, type in Super Cub Mods...it will show you how to repair and modify the battery box-landing gear area..and reinforce it.
When you are assured it is fixed and will not fall apart....than move on...and taxi and see what the plane does
I already know what you did...it is a Super Cub SAFE plane, it almost flies itself with proper speed.....and control input..letting off the control sticks in beginners mode it will level itself out...my guess and best judgement is you allowed it to stall ( not enough speed )for the SAFE basically limits your over controlling the plane ( was it in beginners mode ? ) It will not turn to fast, it will not climb steep but it will fall out of the sky if speed is to low .
Don't get discouraged, my first flight with a Cub , I landed in a tall pine ( a story you can read on this forum )
It takes time to learn and be patient.
But as Fly said...learning is repairing....it is after you get great at repairing, you will get better at flying
Yes get a sim, learn the controls flying at yourself and away from yourself....stick input, etc etc
Even now I have a tendency to slow down to much....It causes stalls in my case.... Of course i am flying 5 to 10 feet off the ground, my mistakes happen fast and little room ( altitude ) for recovery
I have not been able to fly for awhile now...but my flying can be months between times I am able It is at times like starting over again....I have to re-learn every outing...by the time I get Good again, it's time to stop and that repeats....
Just don't get discouraged, repairing and mistakes are part of the learning process....it helps you grow and believe it or not it will help you fly..........

Welcome to rc flying! Crashing? get used to it, it will happen. I don't own anything with SAFE in it so I can't comment on that set up. But, when you taxi, are you using full up elevator? What speed are you going? Is there any wind or breeze coming at you from the side? Cubs don't have much weight to them, and with its wingsize, they can tip over to either side or over pretty easily. I don't even let mine sit on the ground without a towel or somthing over it while I fly aonther plane. If I don't, its usually not in the same spot I left it.

Thank you for all your help guys. you made my second and third flights much easier. i flew the plane without incident. no major crashes today she went up and i was smooth and patient. my heart pounded as i was nervous of crashing but all went great until i needed to land. i came in low and slow and she touched down and the landing gear snagged a bump in the grass. and it came out of the slot and she slid on the ground. how do i prevent this from happening everytime i land. i have read larger wheels what do you guys reccomend as i would like to have a nice landingcuz this landing gear issue will be the death of my plane i swear and my ego.any help is appreciated thanks.

I have larger wheels on mine, handles grass better and takes off great...but on landings, I have yet to have a perfect one...SO I can sympathize there. If you ( Like me ) have rough surface to land on, it most likely will snag-flip over or bounce whatever.... Even when i though It was perfect the last second something would happen... It just takes practice and practice and practice You could do touch and goes later as you learn to fly more. Lining up, and easing it in, takes practice and more practice My issue is my limited flying time, also limits me practicing Just when I start getting better, it maybe a month or more before I get to fly again...like starting over again I had some older carpet, i put down on my field. it sure helped take off's but hitting it on landing has been a challenge and a feet I have yet to do. Practice-patience and more practice and even more patience You just started...So....it takes time.

thank hghost. im just happy that i flew today without incident. i have a larger stretch of tarmac i could land on. but everytime the plane hits a small rock the wing tilts to the side and it veers right so i stick to the grass. its a softer landing but it get a little rough. im going to get out and fly some more tomorrow.i hand launch my plane because the plane cant get enough speed on the rough grass and the tarmac isnt an option because of the small rocks.

If your hand-launching and continuing to land on the grass, why not take the main landing gear off and belly land it?

If your hand-launching and continuing to land on the grass, why not take the main landing gear off and belly land it? It can work but you really have to watch destroying the prop, dragging the battery door to pieces...and banging up wing tips and the underbelly IF you had tall grass ( like me ) you can just land in the grass , something i do allot.
