I went to fly today and my motor didn't have enough power to fly. Different battery packs made no difference in the performance. I took it home and put a little light oil in the openings on the front of the motor and it seems to be running ok now. My question is, other than hobby zone's replacement motor, is there a cheap replacement brushed motor that will replace the stock motor?
Thanks, David in NH

I ended up ordering one from HZ. With shipping it was 12.99. Could I have gotten one cheaper elsewhere?
How do you go about lubing the motor? Do you just put a drop of oil in an opening and let her spin?
Is there anything I should do to the new motor to break it in when I get it?
Thanks.

Put a small drop of light, plastic compatible oil (not 3 in 1 or wd40) on both ends where the shaft comes through the bushings, then spin at moderate speed for a few minutes for the oil to be drawn into the bushing.

Put the drops directly on the brushes and commutator. The comm is the shaft that is copper color that the brushes ride on.

Just recently replaced my SC 480 motor after one of the resistors broke and was retaining lots of heat after the last 2 or so flights. THe new motor (a replacement for the SC and the P-51) worked fine the fisr 2 flights.. and today after I loaded the plane with an over 8 OZ of video equipment....and flew it the first time video taping Main Street I tried to fly it again with my other flying buddies at the football field in town and there was not enough power to even taxi the thing.
I have no idea whatsup, but I think that the replacment motor is screwed up. When I asked the LHS where are the resistors the owner said they are on the inside? in addition the darn motor does not have the metal pinion that came with the original, instead it has the plastic one.
I checked the batteries, the connections, everything seemed fine...The motor I think is not. By teh way when you buy replacement motor, make sure the leads are long enough to clear the nose - thru- to the ESC chamber, the replacment motor I bought for about $11.00 U.S. has short leads, and it was frustrating at best to hook things up. In fact I am seriously thinking of trashing all SC original electronics and go with an outrunner brushless set up...ANy help on what the problem is with the motor will just delay my SC's manifest destiny of becoming a brushless monster.
PEACE and later.
