We live near the local stadium and it has lots of empty field area to fly at. However, by sheer accident I wondered to a local park and found that they have an actual fly field that is open to the public and no joining a club requirements. It is maybe 1 1/2 miles from my home and is well lain out. They even have a rocketry site near by and specific flying areas for choppers and such. I took photos of the place, but they are on my Galaxy S5 and I have no way to download them at present. My email is not setup correctly, so I have to go get a cord to download the photos in my gallery. In addition, they are having a special fly in celebration tomorrow and newbies can even sign up to fly with an instructor if they have never flown an RC craft before. Unfortunately, Bowie is having their 19th annual Chicken and Bread day celebration at the same time. My wife likes the activities there much more than watching RC airplanes and all, so we will attend that this time around.
My left foot has incapacitated me of late, as arthritis has attacked me pretty badly on that left foot. No real bending down and not fun to be on it for very long. I have found just about every type field there is to putter around with my planes, except for cliff flying at this point. I just need to get better and then go do some flying for a change. I got swayed into another hobby for a bit, so I have neglected flying for a bit. Too hot to make it really fun lately. I have been working on building several cigar box guitars as a hobby. Man, I need to limit my hobbies or I'll stay broke for the rest of my life.
If I can download the photos of the fly field later, I'll give it a try. It is a nice runway and bleacher area, for sure. Big wind sock out and lots of field to land on. Looks like a fun place.

sorry to hear that coupe...my left foot also has kept me down for sometime now...just now able to walk a little....after dark the winds ceased here finally...I limped out to my mule and drove over to my field ,and flew my Fire-Fly Champ for about an hour. Got to fly it pretty high for a change it was so calm. ROG take offs were perfect, landings not so much
Had laid down some carpet to take off from and land on....kept missing the carpet.
Good to know you have a place you can go when you need to. Not to many places allow RC Flight without some sort of club setting.
Past few times I went by the small local park near my home, no one has been there...last year it was always full of people walking, this year seems to be less. I am glad I have a private field to fly in....don't have to worry about anyone else.
I hope you get to feeling better...
Hope you get to fly soon as well.

I hope you couple of wrecks soon improve before winter arrives. I'm curious coupe, what is "Bowie is having their 19th annual Chicken and Bread day celebration"?

Bowie, a small town these days and located about 45 minutes away from here, started out larger than Wichita Falls and was a railroad stop for Santa Fe and some others. It was a wild west town and it's nearest neighbor, Henrietta, Tx. has a fair and Rodeo that will almost match Macey's for the length and all the different floats (That was earler this month). The local town folk of Bowie, back in the days of passenger trains in the 30's-early 50's, made quite a profit off the passengers by selling individual boxes of chicken with biscuits included. Thus the annual Chicken and Bread Festival was born. The passenger trains have long since died out in that area and been replaced by ugly coal trains for the most part, but the locals have once again learned how to capitalize on strangers and their money by attracting them to their festival and having such things as chicken and bread, vintage car show, old fiddler's contest and a whole variety of arts and crafts on the town square. My wife has never been into RC stuff, but you can't drag her away from a good arts and craft show. That means the choice for us this year will be the Bowie event instead of the local air show for RC planes here. Most of these little towns locally have a colorful western past that is often overlooked. When you read their history, it is often much more colorful than the bigger cities that now thrive in these parts. Lst time I went to this event in Bowie, most of the folk there were wearing funny chicken hats as they served folk. Be interesting to see if they still do. Nothing funnier than someone making light of themselves and having a good time like that.

Our local farmer is a friend, so I can fly over his fields and even land on them if I want. Lots of space.
Only problem is finding somewhere smooth enough. I usually end up in the local park, which is quiet.
How I long for a paved runway.

Thanks for the clear description of the chicken and bread fair coupe, you painted a good picture. As for the flying club! I'm speechless. :-)

In Arlington, TX., the place I flew there was really nice, but was mown only about every 3 months or so. It had a pond, as well, so I could also use my floats when the area was not muddy. Down here though, the lakes are all dry at present as the drought is still going strong. I was arrested on my first day here and thrown to the ground and handcuffs put on me. Seems I had violated the local water restrictions by sweating too much. :-)

That means the choice for us this year will be the Bowie event instead of the local air show for RC planes . . . There speaks a wise married man! Not five minutes before seeing your comment, I read a quote attributed to Woody Allen: "In my house I'm the boss. My wife is just the decision maker." Ring any bells, guys? (BTW, I too am envious of your marvellous flying area.)

We made it back in time to go by the fly park and watch some Delta wings do a dog fight with each other. Too fast and furious for my taste though. Saw several gas powered planes, but no SCs or Bixlers. The metal bleachers are not covered and the temp was just too high to sit out in the open sun to watch all that long. It was funny, as all the pilots were about my age (mid-60ish) and it took them a good 20 minutes to set up a flight, as they first had to argue about it like the old farts they were. I was laughing, as the same thing happened at the old timer's fiddling contest in Bowie. Everyone playing the blue grass music there was about 80-90 years old and it took a while for them to get seated or ready to play. They were good, but those old bones didn't mean they were fast to perform in the least. I tried to take some photos, but I didn't get many. There were many more planes there than what I captured in my photos.

That is a fine flying field you have up there. There's a public field in Tyler also, but with a grass strip. You have to be AMA to fly gas, but not if you are a park-flyer.
There's also a Float plane specific club in town also, They've got a nice piece of property on Lake Palestine. They'll let anyone come fly with them.
