WOWWY, we're all gonna be carving the skies! Is that the 480? If so what KV and we'll need an update as to it's performance.

It has been snowing very hard here. I have not got it out yet. I bet it is going to be a spectacle. I will post some pics tonight if I get time. I have to get back out and plow pretty soon. I did however get to finish rebuilding my 450 SC. My lhs exchanged the 450 with the bent shaft for me.......WOW. I told him how it happened and everything. I cannot believe that I can crash my SC that hard and he will replace my motor.....weird! I spend enough with him, that he could have porterhouses and caviar daily.......lol.

I have to wait until i get a trip back to the UK for work, then i can pick up my TX & RX. Mr M. Your lucky to have a good LHS, theres not many around. It sounds like the guy knows how to keep good customers happy.

All I have left is my motor mount and where to mount the RX and go through the programming of the ESC.
The plane breathed life when I energized it earlier today and servos worked.

Well I ended up not liking my mount so I tore it off and am building a new one. I am going to use CF to make a mount sort of like the one on page 74 at rcu. I want a beefy mount for this monster. He did a good job with that one. I am not going to use the stock motor mount but similar idea. I am going to fire up my new mill and lathe this week. I am excited to get to producing cool r/c's on these toys.

450 is mounted! Now I have a couple questions. What do you guys have your prop brakes and prop spool up rates set at? Are there advantages or disadvantages in these features? How far has anyone changed the angle of the original mount, I am stock angle right now.? Took me a little longer than I expected, didn't make a good list of needed materials and wasted tons of time running to and from shop. Still need to finish wing and tail section mods then I will get pics, fly and report. These motors are very quiet. Right now I have a 11X4.7 screwed on, E-flite says I can go to a 12X8. I still do not have a Watts meter, so going by here-say or suggestions. Thanks a lot all and I look forward to getting this thing finished. Wayne

The 480 has TONS of prop torque!!! The standard firewall has 2 deg. down and NO right vector. The right vector is in your standard HZ motor/gearbox assembley. For the 480 to trim you must add (looking head on) 3/16 upper right shim washer,1/8 lower right shim washer,1/16 upper left shim washer. Max prop in this config. is 11x6. I run this config. with a 10x6.You can run up to a 12x7 on the 480 and lipo, but it's too fast and very twitchy to imput.Best bang for your discretionary buck from all our tests has been a stick mounted HiMax 2808-0980.There was no manuver(without airlons) we couldn't pull off, and with throttle management and a 2100ma,3 cell lipo, we logged 30+mins flight time with excess power left for "go arounds".

Decided to put a 450 in the Cub and put the 480 in another model. Just got to find the time to do it.

I have been happy with the 450 since I put it in. I am still in the infancy stage and trying different props and such. I have found that the SF props deliver tons of torque, not much speed but you can climb to the moon. I do not have a Watts meter yet, I'll get one on my next visit to the LHS. I am sure I am turning the 11X4.7 SF over it's max RPM so I haven't used it much but the times I did use it, WOOH, I went from ~50ft to several hundred feet in just a couple minutes if that. Actually went so high the plane was miniature and looked totally awesome WAY up there. I will make a list of my props and experiences one day. I still have 5 or 6 more to try and again I will be getting that Watts meter soon to get even a better idea of Watt's Up... SCC I am sure you'll appreciate the 450. Are you staying with NIMH batteries? I have stayed with the NIMH batteries and they work just fine. Undoubtedly the LIPO's would perform better for dumping AMPS quicker and their weight savings can not be argued with. With that said I have found the 8 cell NIMH Elites to meet and exceed my expectations so I am content to stay with this set-up for the time being. Best luck and let us know your whole set-up when you do get time and you complete the Super Cub. Wayne

If you went LiPo your sf prop days will be over. I tried one with a 1200 3s 20C on my 450 when I was in the stages your in right now testing and it flexed so much it stayed like that.I thought it was going to snap when held from moving (the plane). I use a 10X7 but I hear I should try the 10X6. I love mine with the 10X7 but never have to use WOT........ever. I never tried it with NiMh's though. Once I got BL I always go lipo for obvious power delivery reasons......I may try my daughters 8 cell packs to see how it works with the 10X7. I am glad you guy's tried it out and like it. Kevin

SCC I am sure you'll appreciate the 450. Are you staying with NIMH batteries? The 8 cell nimh will be my main power source, but i did buy a couple of Flightpower 3s 1800 packs for another project, i am sure they will be making the odd appearance in the Cub. ;D
