Hi guys When i get to upgrading all the electrics of the SC i will probably go for a E flite 450, as i have read on the RCU thread that a couple of guys have installed it and seem to be happy with its performance Before i make my choice i would like to know if the E flite 480 is a possible candidate. Or is it toooo much motor for the SC Here are the specs for that motor. www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLM1500

I would like to high-jack this thread and ask the same question. Is the 480 too much? Additionally what about the different 1020 or 910 KV options? These different RPM's I would imagine would give some prop and performance options. Thanks all and we ( SCC, WJCJR ) will be highly anticipating your responses. Wayne

Well I am mounting my 480 as I type and it will likely maiden on saturday weather permitting of course. I ordered new shafts for the 450 I wrecked yesterday. I can say I liked the 450 better than the 2 others I tried so far. They were the Eflite SIX 2000kv in stock gear box and a BM2408-21 (no name BL motor) on a stick mount. The eflite six was super loud with the gear reduction. I did not like it what so ever. I like the size of the prop adapters on the Eflite outrunners. They allow an APC prop to slide on without any shims needed.

Kevin, Please inform the KV of your 480. Also if time allows you briefly enlighten me to the two different KV options and their respective pros and cons. Also what if anything are you planning on changing of the stock angles of attack? Thanks! Wayne

The 480 I have is the 1020kv. I am not sure about the rest just yet. Still trying to finish it. I have had people stopping over left and right needing help building stuff that flies.

Not sure what to expect with that prop but the rest looks great! Did you get smooth or treaded tires? How many amp is the esc? And of course what battery are you planning on running?

I got smooth tires, kind of longitudinal grooves all the way around. The Castle Creations ESC is 25 amp. I need to do some serious reading up and maybe probing for experienced info. when it comes to programming the ESC. There are 7 different programming areas. I plan on sticking with my 8 cell 2/3A 1500 Elite batts. Oh I forgot to mention I got Deans Ultra connectors for everything. So cropping and soldering of the batts. is my afternoon project. I am a pipe welder by trade but have minimal soldering experience. I used flux coated wire before and it seemed the flux was so sparse it did little good; this time I picked up some rosin flux. The prop too I have about. E-flite says 10X6 - 12X6 with this motor. This one is 11X4.7? It does seem in the middle but the pitch is pretty flat. Catch you later. Wayne

Make sure you use plenty of flux on your wires. It cleans them and helps the solder get into the wire quickly. I tin the wire and tin the deans plug before soldering them together. Sure makes for a nice job.

Thanks SCC I hope it works as good as it looks. I spent a good portion of two hours switching over all my batteries to Deans Ultras and soldering the ESC stuff. I would have to say I have the soldering down pretty good now. Got some crispy finger tips but that's part of learning. My next task is to dive into the plane. I just noticed I forgot to get a stick mount to project the motor out a little. I may wait for that part or cobble something up here. Wayne

Wayne
Have a look at post #1837 page 74 on Rcuniverse. Good info on what prop to use. Also on that page, post #1846, there is a nice motor mount for the 450 by tele74.
