I plan on getting a Super Cub S RTF with SAFE this month. A couple guys I fly with have the older ACT models so I already have a list of mods in mind. My question is, is there any issue relocating the electronic on the Super Cub S to do a battery box mod. I plan on running a 1800 battery vertically. Thanks in advance for any help.

No issue at all provided you check and maintain the CG (centre of gravity) I modded mine to take a 2200mah long ways and the CG didn't change and I get about half an hour flying time.

The problem with SAFE and AS3X is that the RX contains a 3 axis gyro to assist the pilot.
The AS3X isn't an issue, that only requires that the RX be solidly mounted and the plane still when switched on. The SAFE I am unsure of. It helps the plane stay level and will even self right the plane. I don't know how it knows which way is up, so I don't know if it can be easily relocated.

I spoke with Horizon and they said that the electronics have to remain level. Relocating the electronic to the side is out. This is for the Super Cus S. The DSM you can put the electronics anywhere. I have mine mounted on the side so I could mod the battery box to take a larger battery vertically. I am going to have to figure out something different for my S.

You can remove the supports from the rear of the battery box and remove some foam from behind there to accommodate a 2200mah battery without moving any electronics. Personally, I'm happy with c. 12 minute flights, so stick with 1300mah batteries but did remove the rear supports to let me lie the battery flat without any other modifications.
I've flown for about 50 hours like this with no issues.. But other than bigger wheels, the plane is otherwise 100% standard. If yours is changed heavily, weakening it may not be the best idea... And that SAFE receiver needs to be solidly mounted, so the battery box mustn't flex.

I just used a Dremel tool to cut out the support. I won't be able to get a camera in there for a picture, but its very straightforward.
You could also use a sharp knife, I guess.

I did the same as sham, takes a little time but not hard if careful. I also found it made no difference to the CG which surprised me somewhat. I put some insulating tape around the battery with the ends stuck together for something to hold while sliding battery in. Flying time with the 2200 batt was around half an hour so could have a break half way and then take off again.
That of course was when I had a SC before losing it somewhere in a dense and impenetrable wood. lol Thinking I might get a quadcopter with 'come home' switch but may well get another SC when money allows, I miss it. :-)
