It came to my attention today, while surfing for info., that our stock brushed 480 motors do not have much life in them. The figures I read stated that after 2-4 hours of accumulative laborious operation motor replacement was likely necessary to combat decreased performance.
Is this an accurate figure or conjecture?
If this is so I for one will be surprised but two be looking for another motor option possibly. Brush-less set-up, the jump to a better system may be nearer than I thought?
Thanks all.

Wayne, I can't add any facts from experience to this but a motor that last 4 hrs with 15 min. flight times = a new motor every 16 flights.Seems like there would be a lot more chatter from other pilots if that were the case. I don't doubt there may start to be a performance drop but most likely not enough to warrant replacing the motor.

I use comm drops and bearing oit on mine every 5-6 flights. The comm drops help a lot.

Commutator drops. You get them at the hobby store. They clean and lubricate the commutator where the brushes touch and conduct electricity. These are the parts that wear fastest on a brushed motor.

Mr. Mugen; cjg,
I will add this to my lengthening list of enlightenments.
I am assuming for application of this product directions are supplied, do you have any tips?
Thanks again, Wayne

Mr Muyagi-san, You are the dawn from our ignorance. I haven't heard of these magical commutator drops. I shall press my local hobby vendor to produce, any brand names I should announce to him? I would have to concur with Wayne my knowledge of SC and electric flight are increasing at a much higher rate than on other web sites. I Love this site!

I know this is an old post but no one definativly answered the question about motor longevity. I have had my cub for about 2 weeks now. If anyone has put one through a motor test it is me.
I don't count it as a flight unless I started with a charged battery and landed with a dead one. usually about 10-12 minutes.
3/10 6 flights 3/11 5 flights 3/12 3 flights 3/13 0 3/14 2 flights (In the rain) 3/15 6 flights 3/16 6 flights 3/17 10 flights 3/18 6 flights 3/19 6 flights 3/20 8 flights 3/21 1 flight 3/22 7 flights 3/23 8 flights 3/24 15 Flights
89 flights in just two weeks. Other than when I first took it out of the box and recovered it, the cowl has never been off nor has the prop. I am running on 9.6volt 8 cell 1000mAh battery packs. No oil, no maintanace, no power loss, no problems.
89 flights, times lets say 11 minutes each equals 979 minutes or 16 hours and 19 minutes of continuous running under load. very reliable motor.
