HI Folks,
Late this afternoon the winds died down to 0 MPH, so I decided to take my new cub up for her first flights at a local park that has a very large grassy field, when I bought the plane I did get a spare flight battery for free, along with some larger 2.5 inch Dubro foam wheels that cost me $2.79
I had set up the plane for rudder & elevator to the right stick, throttle to left stick, mode 4, but I also set the linkage on my rudder and elevator to midway from the end of the control horns {For more throw}, and then I set my rates to low and set the radio to experienced mode, set my stop watch, and I hand launched , that put a immediate smile on my face ..
I only had to slightly adjust the rudder trim one click to the left, and was treated to a awesome smooth very controlable flight experience with loops and hammerheads, they were very simple predictive and smooth, for my first flight most of the time I was at about 50 percent throttle for about 7 mins it was more than what I expected for handling from my first foam model.
Landings was a bit tricky on that thick carpet grass, even Though I greased it in, under low throttle, as soon as I cut the engine out and the planes speed decreased to almost a stop it would tip onto its nose but ever so softly. It does not like thick grass! lol.
For my second flight I set the rates to high, hand launched again and was amazed how graceful and nimble she flew, I was very pleased.
one note, they have made some changes to the super cub I did not see any visible outside sensors for the safe tech mode , you also cannot pull any of those wires out of the reciever from the SAFE tech, since they are directly soldered on the board, I will just never ever hit that panic button and will always fly in experienced mode , I made no other mods to the plane other than the wheels, I have to to give them a big thumbs up on this great little flyer!
I am Very happy that my money was well spent!
BTW landings on hard pack dirt roads were no problem at all, I did 3 flights landing on grass 1 landing on the service road.
I highly reccomend this plane for the experienced old time Nitro powered pilots like me that dont want the hastle of nitro fuel and the mess it makes or the hassle of having to join a club and pay club dues for field use
