Hey there -- Wow -- what a great forum you guys have created!
Sea2Sky2See Longtime r/c sailor now beginning to get airborne with goal of eventually doing FPV aerial videography. Started with coax heli's, indoor quads, then on to a HZ Duet trainer and UMX Radian -- now looking forward to scaling up to HZ Super Cub S. Will also be great to see what members have been doing with video cams, mounts, controls, etc.
The BeachZone With the r/c sailing background, I have an interest in Super Cub floatplane configuration. Also, living near the seacoast, I'm hoping to test the possibilities for flying at the waters edge -- via hand-launch / beach-landing -- with large soft tires, skids, or skis appropriate for landing on sand.
That's 'Right', Mode 3 As part of the r/c flying learning experience and as a leftie, I'm also checking out whether Mode 3 (leftie Mode 2), or Mode 1, will be more natural for me. Initially am doing this with a pair of DX4e radios, a Mode 1/3 and a Mode 2/4 (both with the 3-way SAFE switch), before committing to one of the few high-end Mode 3-capable radios like the DX9. Mode 3 Appreciate any feedback or experience you have on Mode 3 or Mode 1. Also noticed that we can insert a poll with our posts, so what the heck... input on that would be most welcome.
Cheers, -- Dave aka Dparture Sea2Sky2See

Just use whatever controls feel better for you.
More natural control = better control = more fun.

Learning on any of the modes is mostly a personal thing. Since it's all newly weird you will learn whichever in a similar fashion to start. In general it's more useful to stay with the locally accepted mode as it makes it possible to swap planes and TX with buddies for experimentation, or have and experienced pilot setup or maiden a new plane. It also makes it much easier to get TX setup feedback from folks when you get around to needing to figure out how to setup flaps, crow, double ailerons, etc. Having swapped sticks adds a layer of confusion onto confusion.
For folks that have special goals (3D competition for one) some modes may offer some kinds of benefit that Mode 2 does not. Once you have the muscle memory well installed switching will have some challenges.

Well you know what they say about Massachusetts.............?
Massachusetts women as a rule adhere too strongly to old-time conventions. (Julia Ward Howe)
In Massachusetts, scientists have created the first human clone. The bad thing is that in thirty years, the clone will still be depressed because the Boston Red Sox will still have not won a World Series. (Craig Kilborn )
If you like big government, move to Massachusetts. (Joe Miller)
Seems allot of people said things about Massachusetts over the years.
And Welcome btw.
