The factory ESC is made as a unit with the Rx , you would have to install a brushed ESC and have another Receiver to take the place of what is there now.

Has anyone successfully tried using the stock RX with a separate brushed ESC? You could get power to the servos but I'm not sure the throttle would work. The ESC control+power lead needs to plug into the throttle port on the RX but I think that's internal-part of the hard wired circuit.
Usually people just get everything new and go brushless. Some don't want that big of a jump or expense to so try to stay brushed with the stock motor and get a new RX and ESC. You can use the RX down the road anyway as long as you stay Spektrum. Brushed ESC is likely not going to be used again.

What I'm just using is a turnigy 9x stock 8ch rx and a 30amp (i decided to go a bit larger than 20amp just in case that was a little too underpowered) also I'm using a turnigy battery thats identical to the stock hobbyzone one. Ps dsmx/dsm/dsm2 technology is dreadful
