Hello, I thought I might like to make a remote control tripod for my Mobius Action Cam. My reasoning for this is I don't wish to stand in front of a r/c plane at eye level as it speeds past. So this is a clip of my first try at it. As you will see in the video my side to side servo is no good. But it works good enough to experiment, I believe me idea will work .It's nothing special but it seems to work. I tried it outside with much better video results in good lighting. Just thought to share the idea. Brian www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iNPrrDjbz8

A potential problem may be that the field of vision is a tricky thing to figure on the stock Mobius camera when moving it about in a panning motion. That is not a real problem if you purchased the wide lens Mobius though. I lost my first stock Mobius when I flew my plane into a closed liquor store near where I was conducting my maiden voyage. $80 bucks down the drain on that crash. :-( I have long since gone to cheaper cameras, but I did purchase the wide screen Mobius, but I am content to use it on the bill of my cap with a mount mod I did for that. I like the pan and tilt mechanisms. I have a much larger version laying on my desk here. I really love my Mobius camera, but for off the ground flying, I can't afford to lose all that many in crashes. As great as the Mobius is, it really does not work well as to having much protection when hammered into the side of a building like mine was. My GoPro does much better inside its case like that. Nice mount idea you have.
This video shows some potential problems when using a more narrow lens such as the stock Mobius. This is a Crocalis camera in use in the video and not a Mobius, but you can see in the video that the lens angle was set too low and cut off the heads of the subjects in most of the video. A wide lens Mobius would not do this and would capture the field of view much better than a stock one.

Thank you for info on the wide angle. My Mobius Action Cam does have wide angle as well the standard one. It will also take still shots. A great deal at 68.00 I thought. If our wind ever dies down here I'm looking forward to testing it out at the field. That real sucks hitting the building. So far knock on wood I have only crashed into trees twice. It's easy to see the need for wide angle for the runway. Thanks for the tip. Your clips sure shows the meaning behind your saying " a bird is just a bird and a cat just cat, but a dog is human"

The though occurs that you can't remote control a 'plane and remote control a camera at the same time, or am I missing something?

Yes, there are camera setups that pan and tilt remotely. Depends upon what vast amount of money you wish to spend on such. Research the fpv areas of any board related to RC flight and you can probably see a ton of the folks who have used the setups. I have no real knowledge of these types of camera setups, as I have to ventured into that area in the past except once when I put together a pan/tilt servo unit. Mine was under powered and I didn't work hard at improving it at the time. The unit worked off a servo, so the thing could have easily been operated remotely, just as you would work the rudder, horizontal stabilizer or anything else on the plane. I hope I am understanding what your asking, but that is what I have found. Wattflyer.com, RCuniverse.com and RCgroups.com are sites with much about cameras and others also have much info on the camera and such on them.
The pan/tilt unit I am using in the video I posted has a 16' or so cord to it, so it would not work as a remote on an RC plane unless run through the transmitter. Most of my cameras that have a remote button included with them would not work well, due to the distance they seem to be effective from. My Tachyon, Swann and my GoPro all have similar remote buttons that would not work for the distance involved, but would be okay if set up with the transformer to receive signals. The unit shown in the video I posted is waaaay to heavy and bulky to use in any RC plane though.
