This morning, I decided to get the cub out and do the more basic of the mods while I can't fly.
So, I dremelled the rear of the battery box to make a little more space - its only a few mm so I don't think it will hurt the cog. The battery now fits flat, easily, and I can remove it without hurting the cables. All without having to move any electronics.
Then, I removed all of the ACT components.
Lastly, I taped the leading edge of the wing. Of slight concern here is a few wrinkles in the tape - it won't affect flight much to have a wing surface that isn't perfectly smooth, will it?

Not in my experience. Also, I mount my battery horizontally after modifying the box, just as you have done. This means the battery is in virtually the same position as the SC designer intended, and so does not affect the COG.

That was my thinking, avoid any possible lipo problems if I can without affecting the plane.
I bought it for it flight characteristics and don't want to change them too much.
