I am about to relocate to Oklahoma City, a small town north east actually called Midwest City. My beloved Cub will be getting that orange dirt on it soon.
Can anybody point me to any nice flying spots around there? I am going to just have to just about start over as the whole process of relocation has taken so much time with family and work that I have not flown in far too long! I am eager to get back into the fun.

hey dave, the only thing that i know about oklahoma is that the wind blows swiftly after rain... I think that goes "the wind blows swiftly down the plains" but I could be wrong. But it also has "the wind comes right behind the rain" so we're both kinda close. By the way, I was born in Tulsa OK but we moved before I turned 5.

Robert,
The Google Earth idea is brilliant! Really never occurred to me, and I can't count the number of possible sites I've driven by and said to myself how didn't I know that was there!
And I think the Marmite thread is bad enough without a show tunes one adding to the craziness!

If you Google the local rc clubs, they often have membership lists and you may even find someone who is actually quite close to where you live and the club may also provide you personal info regarding best places to fly. (Remember that most all of the clubs require AMA membership to fly at their fields). I plugged in local rc groups on Yahoo and found a few clubs in my area. In going to their websites, it showed their fields and gave directions. Although there are places such as The Wichita Mountains (more towards Lawton), from driving in the OK City area, the land seemed to me to be more hills and flat land than anything. The wind is not necessarily your friend there, as any review of the tornado alley would show. In other words, the wind can really be high quite often. You may also check with the local Chamber of Commerce, as they will supply just about any info you want if you ask them. Good luck with finding out what you want to know. Last time I was there was when the local museum had the Titanic exhibition. Really nice back then.

Thanks for the google suggestion. I used it when researching the house we intend to buy. Never occurred to me to use for scouting flying sites. If you had told me 15 years ago that I would routinely use satellite data for simple domestic issues I would have laughed at you!
Times change. As for marmite and showtunes..........no comment.
I will start researching the local clubs. I just thought I would throw it out to see if anybody from that location was on the forum, try to make a connection.
There is still time, who knows what I might learn!

www.rcgroups.com/place/316-baxter-field-flying-club-oklahoma-city-okIf you go to rcgroups.com above and go to Places, which is a box above the forums, you can look up Ok rc flight groups there. I only linked this one, as the pages are several and I just wanted one for example. Do a search there and there may be more. If you contact this Baxter site linked above, they can probably link you with individuals, too. Good luck with it.
