I read several posts on RCGroups about beefing up the landing gear on my new Fun Club, so here was my attempt. I used the old LG from my now defunct Super Cub to do the modification I saw posted earlier. I didn't have to bend the gear much, then made a slight curl where it touched the original gear. Ground off all the coatings on both wires. I used solder wick braid to wrap around the joints and ensure even solder distribution. Then I covered it in heat shrink (would have prefered black, but red is what I had on hand). Here are the results.

. . . . It's a quote from 'the Hitch Hikers guide to the galaxy' by Douglas Adams, and was meant tounge in cheek...oops.. Well blow me, so it is, Chris! Another day when I've learned something new! Sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion, matey. My good intention was to stop WW III breaking out on here, as has happened on other forums when certain subjects were mentioned.

I'll be interested to see how the landing gear copes once maidened. The usual practice is to use lots of wire. I've never seen braided solder wick used for this purpose.

Toffers,
Love the new avatar! Also the Hitchhikers.... jolly good reading!
JK,
No worries about this chap Phil O'Sophy. Keep posting the pictures and progress, it shows that you are being followed with interest, looking forward to the video when and if you can.

Well, here are a few more pictures. 1st is my "poor man's-d**ned if I'll pay their prices!" home-made servo connectors in progress. I intend to directly splice the new servos into this harness and not use all of that unsightly double connector plug-receiver plug mess. 2nd is the completed wing showing the flaps in their semi-deployed state. the last is a closeup of the quality of the gear Multiplex provides for things like flap hinges, etc. I must say, everything they supply is first rate!

JK,
Did you put that box of soft toys in the background on purpose, just for me to comment upon?
It is all looking good my friend and I like your innovation with the servo's.
Keep posting please, it keeps me going in these non-flight days of mine.

My lord CH... Please, it's Toffa, not toffers ( my given name is Christopher...hence christoffa...hence Toffa..hence Toff...bloody rellies!...) So Toff it is ( until I divorce or die, anyway!) I don't actually mind that much, but it's a bit like being named Bill, and everyone calling you Dave....Toff or Toffa is good for me.....

Finally got the rest of my parts, so the build can begin in ernest this weekend! Ordered 6 servos and a new motor from Hobby King's USA warehouse. Ordered last Friday and parts arrived yesterday, not bad service! Anyway, I went a little overkill on the servos (well, I didn't go totally crazy and buy Hitec or Futabas) and got digital, metal geared ones. Got two DS-939MGs and 4 XGD-11MB servos and an SK3 3536 1050 KV motor. It takes a little bit of nerve to open brand new servo boxes and then immediately cut the ends of the connectors off! But the wiring up of my direct connect T-connectors for the ailerons and flaps went off without a hitch and all function fine!

I am keeping up two threads, this one and one on RCGroups. Here is a link to my build thread on RC Groups, it also lists a little bit more information about me personally, so if any of you are curious you can check it out at: Jeff's Build Blog

Not liking the look of servo wires glued beneath wings, I finished up my servo installs, made sure ailerons and flaps worked as expected, which they did! Next I glued the wires down with spots of hot glue, then covered the wire trails and servos with white duct tape. Much cleaner looking I feel

Sitting in ER room with youngest daughter (22),nothing too serious but enough that overprotective Dad insisted she come be checked.
Anyway, though I would use the time for an update of the Fun Cub build. All the airframe is finished, servos installed and working fine.
Honestly the main reason I went with the Fun Cub was the allure of having flaps to play with! I just sit there and run them up and down just to see them deploy.
Anyway, plane is all together in its pure white glory. I took a short video of the flaps in action and some overall shots of the white bare airframe that I will add when I get home to my wireless and laptop,
Next comes the mounting of my new Turnigy SK3 3536 1050kv, placing some decals for color and character and hopefully a maiden flight by Sunday if the weather cooperates.
