My recent crash into the trees and the subsequent getting of my plane down caused damage that needed to be repaired. I ordered a new tail which included both horiz. and vert. stabilizers, elevator, rudder with tail wheel attached, and the control bars. Actually, I ordered the control bars separately because I couldn't see that they were included with the tail, but the were, so now I have some extras.
My damage had pulled the rudder right off the vert. stabilizer, so I needed to replace the verticals. The new vertical stabilizer came with the plastic holder, but the holder was not attached, and it would be too loose a fit to just push it in. It would blow off upon take off. I tried to pull the damaged vert. stabilizer out of its plastic holder and learned that it had been glued into place. So I used some epoxy to glue my new vert. stabilizer into it's plastic slot. I pulled the blue decals off of the old stabilizer and put them onto the new one. I also had to put a new control bar into the tiny slot at the bottom of the rudder - it attaches with a small plastic locking square on the other side of the rudder - kind of like a zip tie works.
Next I needed to replace the propeller, which I had chewed up trying to rock my Super Cub out of the tree.
Problem: I couldn't get the spinner off. So I checked our Super Cub forum and learned that you have to bend forward the side flaps of the spinner so that you can unscrew the spinner without the side flaps of it hitting the prop. If I hadn't read about that on this forum, I'd never have guessed that you could bend the side flaps of the spinner forward without breaking them off. Actually, the spinner reverts to its natural shape after the bending, but I would never have guessed that by looking at it. The prop came off after removing the nut with a nutdriver.
Oh, yes, then I noticed a crack in the plastic cowl, but repaired that with some epoxy on the inside of the cowl. The cowl removes by taking out 3 screws. Then put it all back together with a new prop.
Finally, I tested out all of the controls in my basement, but I would have to wait for another day for a test flight.
