I sort of discussed this in another thread already, but I did have a crash on the maiden voyage of my Super Cub.
Damage Report:
- Cowl busted pretty badly & will be replaced with a spare I had.
- Prop shaft bent & will be replaced with a spare I had.
- Small piece of foam missing from trailing edge where the wing cracked in two. I'll probably try to fill and use some packing tape to cover. Leading edge of wing had packing tape, but not the trailing edge.
- Tail rudder at leading edge has a small crack in it, but I'll repair with piece of plastic, I believe.
Front landing gear came slightly out of the holder slot and the wheels were tweaked a small bit. I have bent them back & will straighten the left skirt as I do so.
- Prop was scuffed up badly at the tip & will be replaced.
- Wing was broken in half, but I will replace with a spare I have & repair the stock original wing for use.
- Firewall was cracked and broken. I will replace with a spare that I have.
I haven't found any other damage at this point, so I feel I got out lucky on this crash. My own fault in the results, as I was simply too caught up in the adventure of seeing my SC fly for the first time. If I had zoomed off to the left instead of the right, it would have been a completely different story. Some lessons were learned though, so I am still pumped up and will be back to try it again as soon as the initial repairs are completed. Yippy, yippy, yippy! Probably only got in about 20-30 seconds of flight before the crash, but it sure was grand to watch my SC flying like that. Darn, I forgot to turn on the camera on that flight. :-(
Hopefully I can get all the repairs done soon and be out and about once again ASAP. :-)
