I am preparing the floats for some future use on my SC. I want to paint them and not have the decals on. However, in trying to remove the decals, they kept peeling at the foam a bit. I found that a sheet of #80 grit metal sanding sheet, like used for sanding wallboard, worked just fine and didn't bite into the foam. It actually prepped the foam pretty nicely for the paint. I have not decided on a color to go with presently, but these floats were for later, anyway. The floats were also coated with MinWax Polycrylic clear satin and light 3//4 oz fiberglass cloth used. (The stuff is like tissue paper). As per someone else's suggestion, the bottoms will be coated with car wax prior to use. Probably ICE. Someone told me that the floats can come apart after a while, but this should help keep things intact, I believe. Like Ivory Soap, they float nicely in my tub so far.
