I was reading this article about various ways of breaking-in a motor and decided to pick on to piddle with, since I had a spare motor handy. I am not so keen on upgrading to the brushless, as I am generally pretty happy with stock stuff and all the quirks that go with being in the slow lane in life. :-) Any rate, I hooked up some AA batteries in a series and have been happily watching the motor spin it's shaft like mad for more than 30 minutes, now. Sort of fun and entertainment in doing that. Not sure how long the batteries will last before going dead, but still fun in just playing about like this and doing something useful at the same time. Like say, this is just a spare, but one never knows when it may be needed. No smoke and no fire, so far. :-) I'd really want to do the water break-in method, but a bit hesitant to try that one just yet. www.rcuniverse.com/forum/electric-rc-helis-167/5628228-brushed-electric-motor-break-guide-not-just-helis.html

Do the water break in. You are doing little good that way. Be sure to immediately dry it out and oil the bearings.

I went with the alcohol used for this particular motor. The article didn't say if I should use Jack Daniels or Old Crow, so I just stuck with the cheapie rubbing alcohol, instead. :-)
No, nothing exploded, caught fire or burned out any of the wiring, so it was pretty safe. Blew it out and oiled it, too. I enjoyed piddling around with it and when it comes time for a new motor, this one may well be more powerful and longer lasting. Who knows though....
