Well friday, I put my SC in a large pine tree. Had to do some tree climbing to get it out bad enough. Did not do allot of damage except to my nerves
Today, I flew the Champ Like I have been doing and it suddenly became very windy...coming across the field towards me, the wind gusted so hard it took it actually up in a loop and to no control input at all, into a Pole .
Knocked off LG and crushed the nose and bent the prop, now the little Champ is going to have to be repaired.
Horrible flights these past few days.
Disappointing to say the least.
Screwing up allot....gonna have to step back and take a few breaths....before I go again.
I am sure that never happened to anyone else ...huh ?

All that, and far, far worse....Lost planes, fast jet smashing into goal posts, loss of signal, esc burnouts. All part of the learning process... in nearly all cases, it was something stupid I had done ( except the loss of signal... that was weird..).

Oh, yeah, there was this other time to now I think on it. A bit before that I had this horrible mid-air. Then there were these 2 times in the trees. But the best (worst) was when I lost it overnight in the neighborhood. I never should have been flying there.

I imagine in my mind a place where all planes fly smooth and perfect...then i awake to reality and realize the not so pretty landings and tall tree climbing and crushed foam, and flying pieces and lost planes....is what makes it smooth and perfect.

I love blaming tree landing choices on the wind too! ;-)

I love blaming tree landing choices on the wind too! ;-) At least in a tree landing you see where it came down, my first SC lp flight the winds were fine at ground level, but really strong and steady aloft. This being my first flight, I knew that altitude was my friend (not in this case however). I got up to a certain altitude and the wind just took control! What a helpless feeling watching your dream of owning your first real rc plane fly away out of sight! Searched for days afterwards but never found it.

jklong with the glide slope of the Cub it could have been miles away before it ever came down..I imagine someone has a beautiful new toy

I never fly real high,( also reason why tree landing ) But where I am is an Interstate over those tall tree's..hate to think it would carry over there ( scary thought )
Like today's Champ flight sudden wind blew it in a loop and into a pole....rather have that then it carried away.
Everyone has a preference in altitude. I do not like to fly real high, highest I have been is less than 100 feet closer to 50-60 or so. Never above the treeline. These tree's are really large it would really be high and am sure it would get carried away in those heavier winds at that height.

I understand the need for the "three mistakes" high but I find it much easier to correlate my stick movements to the plane reaction when the plane is at about the height of a football goalpost which is somewhere in the 40'-50' range. Maybe be for a SC that is three mistakes high...
