I'm a new member and new flyer with about 4 months of SuperCub experience. Currently in the process of building (ok, so it's really buying parts) another Super Cub and doing the aileron mod. I have been looking at Rx/Tx's and the main 3 seem to be Spectrum Dx6 or 7 Airtronics RD6000 or 7000 Futaba 6exas or 7ca Most likely I will buy the servos that come with the system unless someone can recommend better. All are 2.4Ghz spread spectrum systems with the prices close enough that buying the better/best system is preferable.
This will be my one and only system, I have an interest in going to electric powered gliders (Easy Glider) at some point but mostly prefer the slower scale type aircraft. No interest in Helo's.
Having said that, any suggestions?

Hey Joel, welcom to the forum. I just bought a Futaba 7cap and am really enjoying. Like you I researched all the main players out there and Futaba seemed to be the most user friendly. I can tell you that it was very easy to program my planes and the menu is very easy to understand. IMO Futaba is the number one in the rc business. As for getting the 2.4 freq it really depends on where you fly and if you plan on gathering a lot of planes. Personally the $100 RX cost for 2.4 is a little high for as many planes as i'm buying right now. 72 freq works just fine for me and i can buy a good RX for $30. Just my opinion Oh...And don't forget to check Ebay. I bought my Futaba on ebay for $115 brand new!

Thanks so much, I am only planning on 2-3 planes but I don't fly with a club or around other RC'rs anyway. I will have to step back and re-consider the 72 mhz vs 2.4 ghz issue again.

Hi Joel, I upgraded the electronics in my SC with a Spektrum DX6 and I love it. The DX6 only works with the Spektrum AR6000 Rx. The AR6000`s can be found brand new on ebay for $39.95 + around $4.00 for shipping. Another good place to find a used DX6 or DX7 with receivers included would be the "for sale" section at RCgroups.com After upgrading the electronics in my SC it was easy to buy a plug and play T28 Trojan, all I had to add was an Rx and a battery and I was up and flying. The DX6 also has a ton of programmable features most of which are very easy to understand with the manual. I have never owned a 72mhz system but I can tell you it sure is nice not having to worry about crystals or getting shot down. Good luck

5280ducs I just got a DX6 off e bay. The first plane I plan on putting on it is a T-28 PNP. Am wondering wether you`ve encountered any problems and what your solutions were. So far I`ve fried one AR6000 receiver, any pointers? patmatgal PS the lipo batteries I ordered are on backorder so I`ll have to wait

patmatgal I really haven`t had any problems with the dx6 system in my Trojan. I`ve been playing around with the dual rates and the flaperons. I have the elevator and aileron dual rates set at 100% high and 75% low. I take off and land with the rates on low. Once I`m in the air I switch to high rates, makes rolls and aerobatics much snappier. Your gonna love your Trojan, I bought it as a second plane after my super cub it has really been a ton of fun! Good luck

Hey Joel,
I have a DX7 on my SC and have had no problems. The main difference you will see is that you have much greater servo throws and control how far they travel. The first time I flew it I almost crashed because the servos I used were faster and the throws were greater. It took me a few minutes to figure out that just a little motion with your thumbs will make the plane turn.

I would suggest the Spectrum DX7 all the way, it is the best TX you could ever get. (until next year)
