Hey there folks, I have the original Super Cub that Hobby Zone made, this one, and I recently bought the water skis. Unfortunately, the plane wont get up off the water with that extra weight, so I was wondering which battery (or modification) I should buy in order to give the plane that extra punch. Thanks!

Sometimes I really wonder why Horizon even makes this an option. It's a real PITA with the Cub. It's just NOT suitable in 'stock' trim, not even new stock trim without some concerns. That rant done.....it is possible. 3 ways: 1A. Get a 1300mA 3S lipo or larger (suggestions in the battery section}. The battery box is small so you need to measure CAREFULLY or cut a hole in the box (suggested) which is also VERY common as the box sucks. You will need a new charger for this battery, another completely different discussion. Also see the battery section. 1B. Pull the jumper to reset LVC. supercubclub.proboards.com/thread/988 - be aware that this LVC setting is NOT good for the lipo and should not be depended on. Learn to fly with a timer. - you will have to learn a WHOLE new kind of battery care > lots of reading REQUIRED. Lipos are NOT NiMh and have more demanding requirements. - Change the connector. Tamiya is unsuitable for this power and is a crap connector anyway. Yes, you need to learn to solder, another requirement in this sport. Which connector is another choice and another discussion. Caution - You are now SERIOUSLY overpowering the ESC-it was not designed for this. This is the SAME in the 'newer' Cub too. If you try full power it for much more than ~30 seconds you burn out the ESC. Yep, happens all the time. They aren't cheap ($50), and they are kinda lame. Just use the extra power to get off the water, then throttle back to cruising speed. Do NOT cruise around at speed, you'll soon be dead in the air > then dead in the water. More advanced: 2. Scrap ALL the electronics including your TX and start over with a foam Cub 'blank'. This used to be very common, but it's kind of expensive. This will net you a much better plane but entail a lot more work. Ultimately, if you stay with the sport it's a path you will have to go down as everything you have is mostly 'disposable' except the Cub itself. Even folk buying the newer Cub do this routinely as the DX4e is limiting and the ESC/RX is not very good. Easiest: 3. An 8-cell NiMh could work, maybe even NEW FRESH 7-cell but you need good ones. Yours have got to be OLD and TIRED. www.cheapbatterypacks.com/product/535/1037/96v-Elite-1500-23A-Brick-Pack.aspxProbably more than you bargained for, eh? There is no simple way to give electric a 'kick' without a price to pay. They are balanced systems. Mess with one thing, you need to usually mess with several.
