I bought this BNF yesterday. Impressed with how simple it wa to out together. Not impressed with the struts though. Should be easier to remove the wing for transport. I'm sure ill find tips about it in this forum.
I only started flying a little over a week ago. Maiden viyage of my Cub was yesterday with 5 or 6 successful take-off/landing cycles. Good times!

Welcome to the club old chap!
It seems that you are already doing remarkably well for your first time of flying this wondrous aircraft. No crashes, damage or pilot errors, I envy you. With what aircraft did you start flying a week ago? Maiden straight out of the box? I would suggest a lot of reading on this forum, there have been a number of far better pilots than I will ever be, taking the Cub back home for repairs. (I have a permanent repair station set up). Good luck and post a video if you are able, they are always interesting to view.

Welcome aboard! Yep, wing struts are a pain to attach and remove - but as you say, there are several 'quick release' mods suggested on here if you search. After trying various ideas, I settled on this: take a screw eye (or screw curtain hook) with a sufficiently large thread to screw securely into the existing strut holes in the fuselage. Using pliers, open it out and then fashion it into a right angle. It needs to slot through that small oval aperture on the strut, so cut off any excess and then tidy up any burrs. Screw your right angle into the fuselage screw hole, slot the strut aperture over it and turn to secure the strut. (Obviously, repeat for the other side). You now have a simple, quick attach / release for your struts. Goodbye to those fiddly little screws! You can use screw eyes without modifying them like this, but I found it impossible to find one which was small enough to fit through the oval aperture yet had sufficient thread to fit securely into the fuselage. Anyway, dig around on here to find other useful mods. Happy flying! You seem to be having much success already. (Oh, and it would be interesting and useful to see your location under your avatar. )

Thanks guys. I live in Juneau, AK. There is a local club that has an arrangement with the US Forest Service to use a field used for snow storage and your bus parking at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. I'll have to get some pictures up. Pretty amazing. Not many places where you can fly near a glacier.
I started flying a mini Champ and spent a but if time on a friends simulator (I think it's a HobbyZone simulator). My friend hooked me up with his extra 5ch transmitter and I bought the SC as a BNF. I was going to go with the Apprentice, but was a little intimidated by the addition of aelorans (sp?) and didn't want to crash something that pricy right out of the gate.
I like the idea of the eye-bolt. Thinking of trying that with a small rubber band attached to the strut that I can then loop over the eye-bolt. Oh, and floats!

Hi capitalken, I leave my struts off the plane. The 4 rubberbands seem to hold the wing on just fine for me - at least so far. I've also removed the white plastic pieces above the wheels - at least for now while I'm getting used to the SC. Maybe later when I get better at flying it, I'll put them back on and spruce up the plane with paint or something. Had my SC for about a month and really like it! Good luck, capitalken.

OK, my friends, THANKS FOR THE WARNING. And, capitalken, please heed their advice rather than my bad example. However, I am glad that I wrote about leaving my struts off, because otherwise I would never have known that was an unwise thing to do. I think I will put the struts back on my SC to keep it safe. I learned something very important today.

SC update - After flydiver's and renard80's warnings yesterday, I went downstairs to my SC, and lifted it up by the ends of the wing, and then bounced it up and down lightly by the ends of the wing. And I got the distinct impression that under a little more stress the Styrofoam wing would probably break, probably near the fuselage. SO, THE WING STRUTS ARE BACK ON MY SC NOW!!!! I can now understand that the struts are an important part of the structure design - especially for a foam wing. I did build a Sig Cadet many decades ago and it had a similar shaped wing which was attached with rubber bands and no struts - but the internal structure of the wing was different - it had spars, balsa ribs, and other internal supports so that it wouldn't break like the foam wing of the SC would. At first with the SC, I thought that the struts were just ornamental - because they just looked kind of cheap and to remove them would lower wind resistance. But now I can see that there is a tension strength to them, ie. when the wing wants to bend up, the struts keep it from bending up too much. So thanks to all (including capitalken!), - you probably saved my SC from a disaster! I thought about writing this update elsewhere on the forum, but decided to do it here on capitalken's thread because it belongs here to his credit.
