I just finished modding up my SECOND Super Cub LP DSM BNF!
Why BNF you ask? Well, because I haven't flown in over 20 years, I took my new SC LP out to the local park on Saturday and tried to fly in what was just a little too much wind with a front moving in!
Did two short hops around the field, didn't seem to have much control and had to just belly land in the alfalfa field both times. By then original battery pack was dead, so put in my second, 1350 mah pack I bought when I bought the plane and did a hand launch, thinking I would get some altitude and play with the trim tabs.
Well, got too much altitude and got caught in the upper winds and before I knew it, my new toy was heading south west at about 1500 feet and before long it was gone!
Back to the LHS yesterday and walked up with the BNF box and the guy said "you know this doesn't have a transmitter don't you?". I just said yes, and don't ask why!
Lesson learned, be more patient and wait for a calm day this weekend ;D
Mods I did even before flying are: Packing taped the wing leading edges and tips. Drilled the landing gear struts and fish-stringed and super glued the gear to the struts. Velcro mounted the RX on the right side, cut the battery box and mounted the battery vertically. Put a GWS 10x6 prop to try and slow it down a little bit, this thing has plenty of power! Taped my name and phone number to the bottom of the fuselage. Put the clevis's on the third hole for more control and trim authority and of course disconnected the ACT connectors when I moved the receiver! Lastly, I checked the CG and added a little weight to the nose.
What do you all think of this second setup?
