I know there are a million other aileron threads, but hey, isn't that what this section is for? Before starting on the ailerons I installed a 5mm carbon spar in the wing and removed just about all of the dihedral. For my ailerons I used the dimensions from that popular Super Cub build/mod series on Youtube, and then made the flaps with the length that was left. Servos are Hitec HS-65HB. For the flaps I reversed one of the servos internally because I am kind of OCD about symmetry, and wanted to mount them the same as the aileron servos. Also didn't want to buy a separate servo reverser. Used Dubro hinges (Robart style ones, 3 per aileron, 2 per flap), control horns, and hardware. Made a little Nichrome wire foam cutter to create the servo pockets, along with a pocket for the excess servo wire and flap Y-harness. The center pocket was covered with a piece of 1/16" light ply and then I fiber taped everything up. This is my first RC plane, so it took a flight or two for the "Oh, I have to tell it to stop turning" to sink in, but I really like it much better now that it has ailerons. It was good to learn on an RET plane, but now that I got the hang of it I wanted to control yaw/pitch/roll individually. I really enjoy having the flaps too, at mid/takeoff position the plane leaps right off the ground, and in full/landing position you could pretty much walk alongside the plane it's going so slow.
