I'm trying to narrow down what brushless upgrade to make. Eventually I want to repaint the cub which adds a little weight. I added bigger wheels and carbon fiber rods in the wings and removed the wing struts which were a constant frustration. Will the 450 add more power or is equal to the 480 brushed that came standard. Will it accommodate a larger 2200mAH battery without dragging?

Either works. I use a Park 480 8 something kV with a 10x7 prop and it scoots. Building a scratch Cub now with a a 480 1320 kV and expect even better results.

It depends on what you want your plane to do? I dont believe anyone flys there cub around WOT constantly, The 480 is not much more expensive than a 450 ( in for a penny,in for a pound!) so say you go for a 480!, may i recomend Eflite they are built like tanks very reliable.
What kv do you get? 910KV or 1020KV?
The 910kv has more torque as it spins at a lower rpm, so this means your power is instant with a limited amount of torque roll. Still has over double the speed of stock so fast enough!
The 1020kv spins faster so it will give you a higher top speed and be more efficient at carrying loads ie. cams...but you will have more torque roll at WOT .
Both would be ok but i would go with a lower kv for the sake of the cubs airframe. Its not an aerodinamic bird and puts alot of force on itself at high speeds. Some stregnthening may be in order.
ALL theese factors are changed by how/what you use to mount your motor (thrust angle) and what prop you use.

Jason does a good rundown. Unfortunately the naming of brushless motors is erratic, there is NO standard. You absolutely cannot compare a 480 brushed to a 480 brushless - no comparison. Brushless is lighter and more powerful. Otherwise why would people bother upgrading?
