Revered SC Masters..(all of you)..
Me being relatively new to these ranks, and 'up there' in regards to age, a 'jack of all trades and master of none' culturalization..( notice I used a 'z' and not an 's'), I am asking if anyone has successfully switched crystals in the rx/esc as present in an older SC/LP. My curiosity stems from the fact that those rx/esc FM boards are available on the Ebay world and of course the LHS, and yet some channels command a higher price. Individual crystals are certainly less costly and I have no issues with soldering. A second part to this question is that Hobbyzone replacement FM boards for their ZiG Zag Racer boats are very inexpensive if one just wanted to scavenge the crystals. Yes, I am aware of possibly switching to the 2.4 variety, but not there yet. Just asking the question to the possibilities....Thanks in advance for your considerations.
PS..hoping the 16 inches of crystalized rain that we got over the last 4 days disappears relatively soon.

Oh, superfly, Not another of you strange chaps that use Z's instead of the correct S's. I like your sense of humour (notice the correct spelling with a "u"). ;D I think that you are ganging up on me, help me please my English comrades!! ;D I look forward to our fun communications and repartee. As for being "up there" with regards to age, I almost have wings! Probably the only way I can fly properly, even with those wings, would be after a bit of practise (note spelling) on the flight sim up there! As for crystals, we used to have those in our old wireless sets, tricky things to tune in, rather like the cat's whiskers before, lots of buzzing and interference, then lo and behold, a moments clarity, followed by another half hour of trying to tune in again. Come on now, update yourself, new technology, Spectrum DX6i, spiffing Rx, what more can a chap want? Apart from free beer and bacon sandwiches? Live long and prosper. May your days be windless and your landings like silk on a woman's leg.

Ha, CH..you actually Need back up from the fellow Chaps? Sometimes in reading this grand forum I feel as if I'm actually on your side of the Pond. It must have received that nomenclature from one of your own. Back to the point, I will make the conversion someday, but my simplistic curiosity sometimes strikes just for the sake of knowledge. As for my long ago interests, I remember hanging a rocket ship (a la Flash Gordon) on my wall with its crystal homing in on the AM radio station located 2 miles away. Fortunately it was listenable material. Subsequently that experience turned into Amatuer Radio for a time..and so here I am with all those and many more life experiences behind, standing tall and scared at the same time, flying my cubbie. Isn't life grand that we have 'free', 'free beer', and 'free beer, and bacon sandwiches'. And....Cubbies'.

I have not heard of it done. You would have to switch the TX also. "Technically" in the States that is frowned on by the FAA.
27MHz works, but only 6 channels and lots of competition. Doesn't seem worth the effort. This is from a guy that's still using 72MHz.

Thanks for the replys, Fly and CH...Agreed that the Tx would have to match. Thru various projects I have a number of different channel Txs, so therefore the original question came to mind. I did not know of the technicality with the FAA. A temporary reason that I stick with the 27mhz is that 'if it ain't broke why fix it'. Eventually, it'll 'broke' and then I can go on another adventure...thanks, again. With Respect..
