The crash involving the cub.......
Was flying the heck out of the Cub with full rate on the full span ailerons yesterday.
Went back in the evening for one last flight.
Got down to about 30 - 40 feet and rolled inverted, rolled back and she dropped her nose halfway through the roll.
She was going down vertically so I tried to stop the roll and get the nose up but the spiral tightened up then she went in nose first, not just smashing the cowl but planting the pieces into the ground.
Maybe I will get a tree sprouting cub cowls as fruit next year.
She ripped the firewall off the fuze, bent the prop and bent back one of the gear struts. Easy repair but galling as it is a brand new fuze.
Walking the walk of shame I knew it was serious damage as I saw the fountain of plastic when it went in, heard the thud a second or so later and as I got closer could see white plastic scattered around the site.
Got there and one of the control horns had detached from the left aileron. It was just hot glued on, not screwed so whether this was the cause of the crash or happened because of the crash is unknown.
Out with the glue........

A cut and paste from a post on another forum about the in flight emergency.....Parkzone T28 Trojan
At the airfield by 7am. Got to the runway intersection and decided to do touch and goes as I need the landing practice, my main flying area being long grass with the cub.
Freezing cold, minus 2c according to the readout in the truck.
Did about 20 or so circuits and bumps that I guess would be rated as 5 or 6 as OK pass, 10 as fair but a little heavy (no bounce though), a bunch of wave offs and one dangerous pass, leading to an in flight emergency.
I did notice that the touchdowns seemed to get progressively worse for some reason until the last one. Total area of error from the intended touch down point probably about 40 feet long to short.
Maybe it was the cold fingers, maybe the battery was getting low, maybe my concentration was going, more likely I had hit the plateau of learning for the day.
Anyway the last pass - came in as normal, a bit high so rolled the power off and increased the angle of descent to get her down, rolled out about 10 feet above the "threshold" and applied a little power.
She came down short of the smooth tarmac and hit hard in a pothole, bounced back in the air and I got on the throttle to go around.
She climbed away making an odd buzzing noise and I noticed one of the main mounts bouncing down the runway.
Brought her around and set her down on the nose wheel and right gear, held the wing off as much as possible until it touched the runway of its own accord, she ground looped and came to rest.
Thankfully no damage as I have already taped up the wingtips for such events.
The buzzing turned out to be a missing propeller tip.
I have however noticed that the plastic behind the nose gear strut is cracked, what's the best way to strengthen and repair this?
Not a great weekend as I put the cub in nose first yesterday, planted many small pieces of white plastic cowl into a small hole in the ground and ripped the gearbox and firewall off the fuze. A bit of glue and the spare cowl........
