I'm wondering is there a standard or "typical" way to set the control sticks on the Tx? When I got my s.cub It was th. left stick, rudder and elevator right stick, which makes good sense :-BUT I bought a micro p51 mustang bnf, binded it to my dx4e, left stick th.and rudder r. stick el. and aliron. Wouldn't it make more sense to have rudder and elevator together? I haven"t cut it apart yet [p51] to see if I can change it. Just want to make sure I am learning correctly!

WITHOUT AILERONS you are going to want throttle on the left stick, and rudder and elevator on the right stick.
WITH AILERONS you are going to want rudder and throttle on the left stick and ailerons and elevator on the right stick.
Trust me, this IS what you're going to want.

What is described is Mode 2. Where are you located? Location usually determines the 'mode' you use. Your description is Mode 2.
Don't worry about rudder vs. aileron, a common mistake. Concern yourself with PRIMARY right/left turning. For the stock Cub, that's rudder, for a P-51 it's aileron. In Mode 2 primary turning is the R-stick.
Example - when you put ailerons on the Cub the rudder moves to the L-stick and ailerons go on the right. Yeah, you have to learn to train that L-thumb to do rudder now, but you don't use the rudder nearly as much when you have ailerons.

Completely agree with Flydiver, when i put my Ailerons on my Cub my Rudder went from my Right Stick to my Left Stick and Ailerons now on the Right Stick, but when i first flew it my Ailerons were inverted and i couldnt flick the switch to fix it, lets just say trying to land it was extremely fun, almost crashed it on maiden Aileron flight, Left thumb was not used to doing any kind of turning the lazy thing, i guess if you really wanted to you could change you connections on the RX to your liking, i.e switch Rudder & Ailerons, maybe...... My Setup is DX8 - Mode 1 Right Stick = Throttle & Ailerons Left Stick = Elevator & Rudder But being the DX8 i could always change it around to what ever mode i want simply by taking it apart and changing it, but why would i need to do that? Good luck with your flying,

Thanks guys!! This site is great! Learning all the time. Being a newbie I thought ailerons were used just for rolls and tricks. Well it's time to fire up the p51 and do some damage!

We had one guy who claimed to be a pilot ask how the Cub turned with rudder only. He had never used a plane like that.

OMG! It was like flying a bumble bee. Zip to left, zip to right, I almost took my head off twice!lol After about 15 crashes and no damage [ thank-goodness for a fresh 9 in. of snow ] I think I will put the p51 away for awhile.
PS are micros harder to fly than larger planes??

It really depends on the power plant (motor size) and how fast you fly. You are limited by the weight, or lack of weight in a micro. Not much weight can make it harder to fly in even a slight breeze. However, some micros will putz along at low speed because the lift required to keep them airborne is so low due to their low weight. Also, a micro like the Champ is a high wing trainer which is easier to fly than a micro P51 Mustang....just like in real life! I found that my Super Cub, being heavier, can tolerate wind better, and flys a little better. Just my $0.02.

P-51 is a warbird. It inherently has higher wing loading and has to fly faster to stay airborne. The micros can vary from pretty slow and easy (Champ) to quite fast and challenging, like yours. If it 'looks racy and sexy' it probably is. Beware the siren song of fast planes if you aren't up to the task.

Beware the siren song of fast planes if you aren't up to the task. Call Kenny Loggins, he's in the "Danger Zone!"
