Have just discovered this site and look forward to reading all the hints and tips posted here.
My Cub comes today but don't intend flying it until I've read loads more and re-inforced the wings and fuselage (is it okay to do that?).
My son is into helicopters and it's through him that I'm giving this a try. Have flown three channel helis but never a plane so should be good fun.
Any MUST do mods I should consider before launching for the first time?

Hi, welcome, and as a long time flyer, I'd recommend just flying it as it comes for now. It's fine and dandy for learning to fly - but do switch off the ACT - it will crash your new plane far quicker than any error you could possibly make. Full power on take off, get as high as you can, half throttle, and then small stick movements. There are loads of mod you can do, all on this forum, but get a few flights in with it first, before you think about changing it. Regards, Chris.

Since you have some flight experience you can probably go it alone. If you have flying buddies getting someone to put it up and trim it out for you first time might be a good idea. Transition from heli to flight is not 1:1 at all. There's some cross over but it's a new game really.
ACT.....is garbage. disconnect it. Seriously!
Lots of info on reinforcement available if you intend to do some reading. Whether you do it depends on your feeling of likely success.

Thanks guys for welcome. The only things I fancy doing before I fly is re-inforcing the cowel, fuselage and wing leading edge with some sellotape (clear packing tape). I also read about re-inforcing the wing saddle and was wondering why that is necessary?
Have identified a huge flat area nice and close to home so might be flying by the weekend. I'll be sure to keep you posted on my success or otherwise.....

I also read about re-inforcing the wing saddle and was wondering why that is necessary? The wing can take a severe bash during a crash. This can force it back (usually) or forwards (sometimes), damaging the foam wing saddle. After that, your damaged (distorted) wing saddle is not good for keeping the wing at a right-angle. That's why many of us like to strengthen the saddle BEFORE any such damage. A popular method is to glue a flat ice-lolly (U.S.=popsicle) stick to the rear wing saddle - see at 4:20 here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eA-RhCIkkQ&feature=relatedWelcome to the SCC, and good luck with your flying.
