I know I'm asking a question that's probably been answered many times, but for some reason I can't seem to find it. I've bought a SC LP BNF from Hobb-e-mart that they sold for parts that had a faulty ESC/Rx that I want to eventually do a brushless upgrade to, but for the time being I just want to keep the stock motor and get it flying. Do I have to go back with the original stock ESC/RX or is there another one that I can use to replace the one that's faulty without having to change servos or anything else? I'm using a DX5e Tx. This forum is awesome for a newbie like me. I've learned a lot in a short amount of time! Sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times! I know I've overlooked it... Thanks a bunch!

You are like anyone else that has burned out or damage their ESC/RX (common), and want to keep the stock motor (also common). What Gohmer recommends will work fine. Start reading 'upgrade' threads and ignore going brushless ones. You need a BRUSHED ESC and a SPEKTRUM (compatible) RX. You will also have to solder EC3 or whatever battery connector end on it you intend to use. Soldering is a necessary part of this sport. LOTS of videos on Youtube and with searching you'll find links in this group.

Thanks a bunch. I just didn't know if I had to buy the same exact one from HZ to replace it with. It's my understanding from reading through post here that they are pretty low end. I appreciate leading me in the right direction. I'm learning and this site is packed with a wealth of knowledge!

It's my understanding from reading through post here that they are pretty low end. You've got that right. Pretty much any proprietary part is expensive for what you get and low end in performance and reliability. They are designed for convenience....and profit. If you really want to learn the electronics end of the sport expect to spend some months reading. Note - the ESC > motor connection used is also not standard. 3.5mm bullets is the usual standard for planes in that size range. You'll need some of those. EC3 connectors are 3.5mm bullets in a proprietary connector. They are a fine connector. Some folks like Deans, some like XT60 and some like Anderson Power Poles. No one like Tamiya (old brushed/NiMh Cub) except the folks selling cheap power systems.

Thanks guys, exactly what I needed and nice and cheap from Hobbyking even with shipping. Just got a DX8 and want to mess around with the telemetry until I get something bigger. Now I can deck my cub out lol.
