I'm getting a brushless motor for my super cub lp dsm and i want to now if i need a new ESC. my only concern is that the receiver and ESC are one big package, so is there any way that i can just get a new ESC and keep the receiver part?

My bad, When I first posted it did not click that you have the DSM version of the cub, I have only delt with the older styles. But anyway here is my upgrade. I love it. Someone else will need to chime in on modifications related to the DSM version.
Everything is from: headsuprc.com
450 Sport (includes 4mm prop adapter) = 20.00 32A Power Up ESC (I used a spare E-flite 30A I had) = 22.00 GWS 1060 prop = $3.25 for (2) (already had, that is the prop I used on stock cub with lipo's) (2) TP SG90 Servo (typical 9g micro servo) = 4.00 a piece Aluminum Supercub motor mount they sell = 20.00 Total = $73.25 + 2.00 shipping Had everything within 5 days
I did have to buy a Rx, Ar600 = 50.00
I use 3S lipos from 1550-2200mah 20-25C (Already had)
Then I sold the old crap on Ebay so I upgraded for virtually nothing.
Since I have done this I enojoy the cub much more, I also flying mostly on floats so this setup works great for it. Check out my vids on youtube to see it fly. my name on Youtube is gagallagher04401.

Technically I think you can use the RX. I believe there is one person in the forum that did it but I don't remember the details and have not been able to find it. Most people just get a new RX and ESC. You can use the servos and the TX is BnF so will work. BnF means it will work with any Spektrum DSM RX.
The RX needs to be powered by the new ESC. You would NOT use the power inputs or outputs (cover them). The new ESC plug would go into one of the inputs on the old ESC (Batt? I don't have one to look at, maybe someone else can comment) to get it power. It needs 5V from the ESC same as any other RX. In a 'normal' system it's done with the 5v wire from the ESC. In the Cub 'brick' it's done internally.
If that's too confusing....get a new RX and be done with the proprietary stuff. It's a pain anyway.
Depending on the motor and the demands the lame PZ stock lipo may not be able to keep up with it. It's not a very good lipo.

Fly is the person to listen to regarding eletronics, and, I've been on this site for practically forever, and he has taught me so much ( Yet again...Thank you).
From what I've been taught ( and from personal experience....) what radio Transmitter do you have? Is it a Spekrtrum Dx5 / 6/ 6i/ 7 ..etc) If so... get a new orange reciever, 25a brushless esc, brushless motor, and 5 x towerpro SG90 servos to replace the stock servos.
There are only 3 stock servoes, once you know what the 3 are,and can fly with them, you'll be ready for the other 2!
