Hi All,
I know the brushless upgrade subject has been talked to death but I am on the verge of pulling the trigger on a complete brushless upgrade and am having a bit of trouble deciding between the power up 450 and the 480 brushless motor. I enjoy scale flying off of both wheels and floats and I want the best motor to allow me to do both... hopefully without changing props. I do mostly scale flying but I will need a bit of oomph for flying off of water and for the occasional acrobatics. I dont want a hot rod cub but I dont want to be underpowered either. Anyone have any info or advice?
Thanks
Also would appreciate any advice on these two motor choices in regards to weight and balancing the airplane
thanks again,
Andy

I would use the following brushless set up: 30-Amp Pro Switch-Mode BEC Brushless ESC (E flite) Park 480 Brushless Outrunner Motor, 1020Kv (E flite) OR Park 450 Brushless Outrunner Motor, 890Kv But I would go for the 480 They cost about £100 (155$) for the ESC and motor I am unaware about the weight of the brushless motors but there would only be a few grams between the 450 and 480. Regards Chris

A decent small scale can be useful in this sport. Anyone know have the weight of the stock motor/gearbox combo? I suspect around 100g.
You are looking for something in that area, plus considerations for moving a larger battery against the firewall and maybe moving the ESC up front to get the CG right without adding lead.
You can use a significantly lighter brushless motor and still have more power but still have to deal with the CG. May as well put it into the motor. You don't HAVE to use full throttle you know.

I recently upgraded one of my cubs to brushless and I love it this is my combo Turnigy G-10 Aluminum motor mount from rc custom parts Skywalker 40a ESC/BEC Orange Spektrum reciever w/dual satelites 3 blade prop pkz1015 pkz1081 servos just cause they are where cheaper and stronger than stock ones E-flight lipo 2200mah 3 cell 2c discharge this gives about 10 min. of 1/2-3/4 throttle
Hope this helps ;D

The motor/gear box off the SC weighed 142gms! Just got that info from another thread since I don't have the power plant around to weight anymore.

Your dx4e is ok as long as you don't add ailerons mod. But yes you need custom motor mount!
