Hi all, I'm new to the board. I got a SC a few months ago and have been playing with it quite a bit. I also got a GoPro HD which I mounted yesterday. It's mounted upside down to the underside of the fuselage with velcro and rubber bands going up to the wing anchor pegs. I'm quite happy that it's a strong mount as that is a flat area for the base of the camera to sit on. My only concern is that it is a little far back (for COG purposes) compared to what most people do. The nice thing though is that the camera is about 100g compared to the 300g cameras that I have seen some people use. Anyone have any thoughts about this setup? I have made up a dummy camera out of wood & metal (exactly the same size & weight as the GoPro) that I can use so if things go bad then I won't damage the GoPro. Looking fwd to taking some video and sharing it. Attachments:

And if anyone has any thoughts on interference from the prop please let me know...I just tested it with light feed to the tv and it looked ok, but I'm thinking it may be different on video.

Hi Peter. Nice set up. Make sure your landings are not too heavy, it would be a shame to scratch that lens. There is a nice lens cover that you can get that is held on by a Velcro strap. Gives protection without the bulk and weight of the gopro housing.

scc - thanks, I'll invest in the lens cover. My landings are pretty inconsistent right now! blue320 - Yes, my whole plane is stock. You think it'll work ok?
Thanks for your advice. I'm a noob at this, trying to learn from other's mistakes!

Good luck with that! So an update - I just got back from flying with the fake camera that replicates weight & drag - it went well. Definitely need some more throttle for taking off but it was stable in the air and didn't feel out of balance.

Nice! I guess you just have to make sure you batt power doesn't go low while your up high. You can always glide.

All I found was a replacement lens for the hard plastic cover (that the camera sits in) plus a lot of people moaning about GoPro not selling replacement lenses for the actual camera. Seems like the solution to a scratched camera lens is 'buy a new camera'.

I came across it some time ago and thought it seemed a good idea. www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=74&products_id=817

Pete... Have you considered mounting it inside the plane for protection? I've seen some nice videos with this location. Check out the cameras-section of the forum to get more ideas. I'm thinking about doing this once I get my GoPro.

I'm thinking about doing this once I get my GoPro. I have given that some thought, and I'm warming to it more. My main concern is getting access to the buttons to switch on and off. You'd have to take the wing off to get the camera in/out as well right? Removing the rubber bands is ok but undoing the screws for the struts seems to be a bit of a chore. As always, your opinions are welcome, thanks.

I can't get too excited about mounting inside...another option I have is outside on the fuse under the wing. It does mean I'd meed a counterweight on the other side of the fuse but at 200g (7oz) it's still not too heavy. Attachments:

Ok, I went out and did it - with some success. I had the camera up under the wing with a fake camera on the other side. It was tough flying - it was was windy, the plane was heavy and I think the attachments didn't do the air flow any favors. I bent the gear upon landing as well as breaking the plastic decorative gear leg things. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OT7CjtjdeM&feature=youtu.be

nice one, pete! i like the fact that you can see the amount of force exerted on the wings too. the struts were turning to spaghetti. I think you're right the the CG but the impeded airflow under the wing probably made it hard to steer.
i'll try the same position but i'll be using a keychain cam. i'll post the video too.
