HI FELLOW CUBBERS ! I've been lurking here reading the posts, waiting for a good time to do my maiden flight. Today was sunny with a little bit of wind. I grabbed the boy (9 yrs old) and we set off for a spot with no trees and lots of room. There is a large field by my work that would do fine. We arrived and set up base. Murphy's law! the wind picks up but were here so lets giver a try! I tried to trim the plane with a couple of level tosses into the wind. Looked OK. I hit the throttle and up she went. She took a hard left and started to go around in circles! Tried to correct the spinning and finally put her down fairly hard but no damage! So remembered what was happening: climbed up to fast and went to the left. So i turned in the elevator 2 turns and straightened out the rudder two turns also. next flight went great even with the swift wind. alot better control and flight. I need to get more propellers tho. LOL i hit the ground again and broke the prop or would have went again. Where can one get cheap props in abundance? for now I'll keep practicing with fms till i get more props as i bought a game pad off e-bay. chow for now. Barry.

Hi Barry and welcome to the SCC. Sounds like you and your son had a great day together. I use the stock replacement prop or the e-flite 1080 for about 1 dollar less it all depends on which is in stock when I go to the not so LHS. If your use the e-flite you will also need to get an extra nut from your hardware store to put behind the prop as a spacer but thats not a big deal. Also don't forget to pick up about 3 extra cowls as they will be needed not too far down the road. Hope your son stays interested and you both can grow in this hobby.

Hi JT01. I had already packing taped the wings and duct taped the cowl. So beside the prop, not a bit of damage. I like to research before i get into things. I'll make a few phone calls today to find some props. Barry.

Hi Barry. Welcome to the forum. Keep one of those broken props. You can use it as a spanner/shifter to loosen or tighten the nuts holding your prop in place.

I went to a big field in behind the rugby club in the s.e. over by the solid waist dump. close to home and no trees! I wanted a large place to fly for my first time out with nothing around to crash into besides the ground and my truck! LOL I only hit the ground and not very hard.

Just looked it up on google earth. That is a pretty big field! I live pretty far from there but if I ever get a plane that needs more room than I have around here I'll keep that in mind.
