Foam is transparent to 2.4GHz so you can keep it inside. Batteries, Motor, electrics (and carbon) are NOT. If you place that antenna so that the signal is shielded by these components while flying you can lose contact. The short antenna is both a blessing and a curse that way.
Some of the Spektrum RX have a very very tiny antenna. That is WHY they are 'park fliers'. Pure range is not reduced, BUT probability of antenna blocking is high.
This is why the 'full range' units have an attached satellite or the longer single antenna like the SC. This does NOT (contrary to popular opinion) increase range but it does significantly decrease the shielding problem when properly placed.
If you wad them up behind the battery....well you pay the price. Think about WHERE that antenna will be relative to your position on the ground while flying.
In addition do NOT point the TX antenna toward the plane. This is the LEAST powerful signal. The TX antenna is best positioned 90* (right angle) to the RX antenna. Signals do not come off the tip, they radiate off the length sideways.

crashgordonI think flydiver has given the best explanation possible.... But to let you know, I left the antenne inside fuselage and no issues till now! Thanks.
