How many cowlings have people gone through? I believe I'm on my fourth (when I can get around to purchasing it), in just as many flights My second was so bad that I was able to remove it without removing the prop or spinner, still on my original prop and spinner though ;D

Just to be obnoxious....I never broke a Cub cowling. The Cub was also not my first plane. I bought it in a panic when ALL my other planes were crashed/grounded.

New Guy with three months learning/flying the SC. So far I am still on the original cowling. However I will admit, it has some glue repairs, and has been covered inside and out with clear packaging tape in order to beef it up. I will admit, based on advice of others, I purchased two spares when I bought the SC, but so far have not had to use either of them...

Hey, fuzzywolf, how come four new cowls in four flights? If possible, don't replace, REPAIR!
Better still, reinforce your cowl with tape before flying. Lots of advice about that on here. Latest advice is: don't reinforce with heavy cloth tape, use lighter packing tape instead.
I am the world's worst at crashing but even I have got through "only" three replacement cowls in two years.

Can't remember what happened to the first one, second one I lost as I was coming in to land and a sudden gust of wind slammed her into the ground, and the latest one I went down instead of up, which was embarrassing. I think I still have the first cowling though, that hadn't been knocked up too badly so I'll have a look at it. My dad also mentioned about making a metal cowling for me from some sheet metal at work, thoughts on that?
EDIT: just had an idea, I'm gonna see if I can make a frankencowl from the original and this latest one, wish me luck! ;D

My dad also mentioned about making a metal cowling for me from some sheet metal at work, thoughts on that? Tell dad thanks, but definitely no thanks! A metal cowl will almost certainly be far too heavy and cause you great difficulty when flying. Stay with the plastic one. Reinforce it inside with lightweight clear packing tape. If it cracks on crashing, no problem - keep repairing whenever possible. It may look unsightly but it will do the job, and you can't see it when it's in the air!

Cowlings sorted, looks like it's just come out of A&E, but I like it

I think I just destroyed my 6 in over a year of heavy flying

I'm still on the original cowling but it does have a small crack and I have a replacement already for when it finally breaks away. But then again I've only been flying about a month.

Lucky I suppose , no cowl damage to either of my Super Cubs , I just seem to bend landing gear wires a lot .

Had the SC since June 16th and am on 3rd cowl. This one is now wrapped in clear packing tape and spare is on order.

Had a bad crash with the super cub the other week, so now I'm on my second with a new paint scheme and decals

Probably close to 8-9. Motor mounts are up there too...faulty bnf spektrum receiver is giving me some hell the past few months. Time for an upgrade!
