As newbie I have question about charge rate. Lets say I have 2200mah battery and when I set my charger I can set it on 1.0 all the way up 2.2 for for the Max charge rate correct? If I set it on 2.2 will this shorten the life of the lipo battery?

For a 2200 a 1C charge rate (standard and conservative) is 2.2A (same as 2200mA). Less is perfectly acceptable but will take longer. Most lipos now are fine at 2C (4.4A in this case) if you charger can do it. Some lipos can even do up to 5C but you have to have some charging power for that.
When it doubt, do 1C, which is the same as the size of the lipo in Amps.
