The ESC and receiver are all one unit on the stock cubs, so the answer would be no. Brushless is the way everyone tends to go. much more efficient, and fun. Here is my setup all from HeadsupRc.com
It rocks! fast and fun! A good set-up for the HZ Super Cub is:
450 Sport (includes 4mm prop adapter) 32A Power Up ESC (I used a spare E-flite 30A I had) GWS 1060 prop (2) TP SG90 Servo (typical 9g micro servo) Aluminum Supercub motor mount they sell I use 3S lipos from 1550-2200mah 20-25C I have a DX7 for all my models.
Shipping is wicked cheap as well from headsuprc. I think like 2.00 and I had everything in a couple of days.
Then I sold all my stock electronics for 60.00, so I pretty much broke even

What kind flight time are you seeing at 50% throttle with that setup?

With a 25C 2200mah pack at half throttle, without my floats I would say at least 18-20+ min. I have not flown it in a while so can not remember. If you play around, and float, go high, and float around, even more time. (Obviously depends on wind also) Best thing I have done for my cub was this setup.

I was looking at the Emax BL2220/10 Outrunner Brushless Motor which is 210 wat motor instead of teh 250. I can get 40oz. of thrust with a 19amp draw.

how many channels would I need if I was going to get new TX withupgradin motor, esc and RX if I still wanted to use the drop module? I was looking get this TX "Hobby King 2.4Ghz 4Ch Tx & Rx V2 (Mode 2) ". I know its cheap but i'm try keep the mods of my new SC within a tight budget so I have go this route. I was looking at the setup on hobbyking it didn't look like it has any thing to setup for the release button for the module. I also looked at the 6 channel but it looked like it only had switches for second functions of the controls. I'm new to this kinda of controlers so I don't know alot about finding a control that would allow me to keep using the drop module. I'm trying to stay within 25-35 bucks for the control. any help would be greatful thank you.

You can't use the drop module without staying stock LP, or with Spektrum and using the bind and fly ESC/RX unit. It's a proprietary system. You might be able to pick up a DX4 someone is dumping for the $$ you state. The ESC/RX alone costs about that much additionally.
The proprietary BNF ESC/RX module is for the stock brushed motor. If you upgraded the motor to brushless you cannot use that module.
Kind of got you don't they?
If you want to change to a different TX you will have to cobble together your own drop system, generally out of servos, hinges, and such. I've never done it, seen a few, so can't help with that.
Each function is a channel: throttle, rudder, elevator, aileron =4 drop module adds 1 more. Each additional function is a channel, usually on a switch.
Just a cautionary note-if you get an off brand TX (cheap, sure...but...) you will essentially have no customer support and low chance of help with it as pretty much no one else will have one or if they do they are as confused as you will be. IMO the HK 4ch system you specify is limited at best and completely lame at worst. I wouldn't bother.
I think your best option on a budget is keep it stock and fly it to death. The Cub is a serviceable package AS IT IS. You need to throw some $$ at it to up grade it much. Really what you want to upgrade is your permanent TX and battery charger. Foam comes and goes, a good TX and charger are the basis of a fleet. Be prepared to spend (minimally) as much for those 2 items as a whole new Cub.

It will be well worth it, I would save some money up and get a DX7 (my choice) and a good charger like stated above, they will last, and you WILLhave more models lol everyone does!

Yeah your right. Thank you for posting I was just thinking I could get away with for a short time then. Upgrade the TX when I have the extra money to do so. So the drop module use totally of signal to activate the release? I thought if I went the 6 channel controller I could use either channel 5 or 6 for the moduler release. Am I wrong?

The drop module is proprietary and ONLY available with the Horizon proprietary ESC/RX or the older LP unit. That means no brushless motor. You HAVE to use their stuff or make your own drop mechanism.

People have been trying to figure out ways around the proprietary 'attachments' or other uses for it, like lights, for years. Pretty much > no go.
The Cub is a nice intact, useable plane as it sits. Lots of folks (obviously) mod the heck out of it. IMO, once you start to go that direction you are changing everything but a chunk of Cub shaped foam and there are other chunks of foam that may work better (Minimag, FunCub, Apprentice, etc).

Sorry for this next question, but .... what is the "drop module" that ya'll have been discussing?? The drop module is an optional extra which slots into that plastic tube on the battery box door. By pressing the button on top left of the Tx, the module drops a parachute to float down to earth! See here for a good picture of the drop module in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-zkuH5mA6o&feature=related
