My first serious crash with the super cub was due to my own error. Sorry that I don't have any pics...but anyway... I was really beginning to get the hang of the SC. It was a bit overwhelming at first, having went from a tiny champ to this seemingly behemoth of a plane. Yes, I know that the SC is not a huge plane, but it was still a bit intimidating to me at the time. But I digress...
So there I was, in the field with my SC. I was up at a good altitude, and the SC was little more than a speck, so I decided to bring her down dead stick. I cut the throttle and began my descent. I decided to show off a bit, and tried to land the plane right in front of my family, whom were my spectators that day. The maneuver was tricky, a 90 degree turn at low altitude onto a strip of grass just 20 feet beyond, but I had done it before. Well, the SC experienced a wingtip stall. Luckily for me, it was only about 15-20 feet up. It fell like the proverbial brick. The cowling was nearly shattered, and the wings were skewed at a funky angle.
That was three months ago. I haven't flown her since. I am finally fixing her. The cowling was fixed using clear packing tape. The wings only suffered minor damage, just where the rubber bands hold it in place. Also, the propeller got chewed up a bit, but there was a spare in the box. Now I'm just waiting for my new wheels.
So, that was my worst crash with the SC. I've read some of the other posts in this forum, so I guess I've been lucky compared to others.
Peace...
