Hi guys,
Went out flying yesterday did a couple of nice aerobatic flights on the last 1 the wind had picked up to about 9 maybe 10 mph, climbed up to about 200ft started doing tight wingovers into spins then the left part of my wing snapped at the time I was over some houses by a primary school (don't worry it was 7pm :-) I was in the field the wing came flapping to me and I lost sight of the plane I thought it had gone into one of the houses but then I found it on the smaller field on the other side of the school. I am so pi**ed of I didnt get any photos sorry Guy's. The damage was a broken wing, the left side of the fuselage was split all the way to the battery door, shot the battery through the battery box into were the receiver is and bent the prop but now it is all fixed working fine it took me three hours to fix. Oh yeah I also remembered tht on tht flight I put the wing struts quite tight would tht be y it snapped and the little gust's of wind cheers Aaron

The struts support the wing. Having them tight should not have made a difference.
From your own mods: [then the wing struts which i used strimmer wire and velcro]
I suspect the stresses undid a knot (fishing type line needs particular knots to not slip), broke the line (same problem-kinking with regular knots can weaken the line badly) or pulled the velcro lose. Once the line support was gone >>>> acrobatic stresses took it out.
Once you crash that badly it's about impossible to figure out what went wrong.

Hi flydiver,
The knots were wrapped and glued none of them came loose it's a tricky 1 me personally I think it might of been too much g stress with all the tight turns and flipping around into a 10 mph wind Aaron

Think what you will but if you have the stock motor there are folks here carrying a lot more power and weight using only struts. I doubt if they are conservative fliers either.

Flydiver is correct!!!! I fly and have flown my cub with a mind boggling amounts of power and weight. I've flown with a 35-42 motor and weights pushing close to 40 ounces. You name it and I've had it or have it in my cub. I've also flown high G maneuvers in extremely windy conditions and I have never broken a stock super cub strut. There are gonna be variables to how each person flys and stresses there SC. I for instence never leave full throttle in when doing a loop. Once I reach the top of the climb(or circle) I cut the thottle till my plane comes down to about the 7 oclock position where I start to gradually add throttle again for the next loop or to level out.
Based on my own flight experience with the SC I find it hard to believe that you snapped a wing with G force alone. I would bet failed fishing line or velcro coming loose!!!
My recomendation, put the stock struts back on and be done with it!!! Use Heavy Duty Velcro(home depot) and tape the strut about 1" up from the eye using 1 single piece of velcro looped over the eye! Place a nice long strip of velcro across the battery box. That will NEVER pull off if trying to pull the strut in the direction of G Force applied to the wing and strut.

If it came loose and flapped back to earth it probable came loose during the stress. or It had a weak point in the wing and snapped, did the tip break off past the strut mounts on the wing?

Skypiraterc I'm glad you let me know sounds like a good spot to wrap a strip of packing tape around the wing. I'm thinking its a weak point and after crashing or stress over time it makes it weak enough that under stress it would snap off like yours. Not saying you crashed yours I know I have mine and I try to reinforce ever spot possible. With all the mod reinforced areas it has saved me money learning with this plan.
