Hello, I am relatively new to this site and flying in general! i have had my baby for about 2 weeks and as of yesterday i had max throws and was flying inverted, outside loops and hammerhead turns! (we have a field just seconds away from our house) but Yesterday i seemed to lose control of the rear elevator and smashed straight into the ground, nose first. As i rand to see it, i noticed that the wing had snapped directly in half! i found this surprising because i have read that the epp foam can bend to accommodate large impacts, but i was certainly shocked to find this. My father being a doctor has managed to nab some cast material which we are going to use seeing as the gorilla glue has almost no effect whatsoever on such a critical, stressed point. Any feedback regarding snapped wings and how to fix them would be gratefully accepted.

Do you know whether the wing snapped while in the air - perhaps overstressed if you were doing fancy flying (??) - or did it break upon ground impact?

Iv flown with no wing struts n it flaps like a bird :-) it didnt snap even tho it looked like it would!..soon landed. So its possible..but im thinking more likely to have happend on impact!

Newbies rarely appreciate the force involved in a crash. It snapped because you crashed THAT hard. I suggest some very careful checking. You've almost certainly done a lot more damage than a broken wing.

. . . . I suggest some very careful checking. You've almost certainly done a lot more damage than a broken wing. Yep, like the man says. One thing to check is your two servos. They are held on with a sticky pad, silicone and spit - very prone to coming loose with a heavy smash. Check they are still firmly in place.

Just noticed that only paulielpilot has addressed your original question, how to repair a completely snapped wing.
I'm sure his epoxy repair would work. But I have to say that if it were my plane I would bite the bullet and buy a new wing. This would greatly increase my confidence when flying.
I am nowhere near as adventurous as Paulie . . . ;D

A carbon fiber strip, glued into a slit in the wing is the appropriate way to repair. Also a good idea if you buy a new wing.
You can use a shorter piece, and keep your dihedral, or cut your groove so as to keep the dihedral, by having the outside edge of the rod is deeper than the center, in the wing.
Take a SHARP knife blade, and hold it between your two fingers, so you can cut a uniform depth slot about 1/4 deep or less. Use a straight edge to cut a straight line. Use blue masking tape on either side of the slot so as not to get glue all over your wing, then run some glue into the slot using a small scrap of plastic, or wood, or a toothpick. You could also use a slow setting super glue, as they come with a nice little applicator usually, so you could squeeze it into the crack.

Nightflyer, Everyone ends up snapping a wing sooner or later. I have had the prevelage of going through 2. Just a strong and foam safe epoxy should fix it. Then use some fiberglass reinforced tape to strengthen it

Epoxy is the best thing I used also I pit for kebab skewers in the wing to make it stronger under the stress point hope this helps, Aaron
