Bought myself a small diesel hatchback (big enough for planes in back), so flying session soon Nick? Bought the mini J3 cub from HK so I can fly in my backyard of an eve while its light late still..... www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=16340Must say first impressions, very nice construction, though I am aware of a prob fitting the wing without removing a little of the clear canopy at the rear of the wing saddle, no biggy. The moulding of the wing so as if you can see the wing spars through the covering has been very nicely done. Overall first impressions out the box, V V V impressed. To be honest I was suprised to see it actually seems alot nicer made than the HZ SC ...... Sorry folks! Downside no spares available! Have bought the reccomended motor batt and esc which were Turnigy 500mAh 2S 20C Lipo Pack TURNIGY Plush 10amp 9gram Speed Controller hexTronik 16gram Brushless Outrunner 1700kv I think I will immediately double up the aileron servos, there seems to be space for two. Nice little Cub, John (I particularly like the clear cabin), but a couple of very off-putting reviews on that website!
And no spares? That would be useless for me, the local Crash King . . .
Looking forward to hearing how you get on with your new baby. Hope she flies well.

I know what you mean Ian, but then every time I have trolleyed my HZ SC I havent replaced a single part except for the first cowl, then I taped the 2nd one and it keeps surviving. All other smashes been sorted with tape n glue. So Im sure I will smash it but I am a total converty to the powers of glue, tape and a stiff upper lip! I'll keep ya posted on how bad or good it flys, though not sure how worthwhile my advice would be! John

Bought myself a small diesel hatchback (big enough for planes in back), HI John Most people, when shopping around for a new car, have a list of priorities: Fuel economy, engine size, cost of insurance, cost of tax, 5 or 7 seats etc. etc. Not you, "is it big enough for planes in the back? OK I will have it", job done. Just keep it nice and simple, I like that. Geoff

I like ur thinking about the car lol john, Cheers Paul! ;D didnt see a price for the plane tho? In total including plane, motor, battery, esc & postage it cost me $65.38 that day exchange wise I paid £42.02 I had $33.00 of bonus points which I used to bring it down to that. Anybody flown while hung ova?... Oh, is there another way? Cheers to Geoff too for the appreciation of my thinking! ;D John

Lol john yes! Great price too...have u recived it yet? Yep got it a couple of days ago, seems nicely made. Infact between my last post and this one I was prising the single aileron servo out of its snug slightly glued in foamy bed, came out nicely no damage! Nice. John

Bizzare! Oop north, the weather man has given it out to be rainy and windy, but it's actually been lovely. Flown the zero (Nice.... then I found I had the prop back to front, then it was Niiiice!), If you ever have the chance to buy one of the GWS warbirds, get one! Then read the posts on RC groups before flying it! They nose up like a politician! Up to where the sun shines! There are fixes, but I find flying with lots of down trim works just as well, and is a lot lazier than actually doing something! ;D Flown(ish) the radian ( good flights and then the into the ground for no reason at all. Thank you Model memory! I don't think it remembers anything, and it's a DX6i!!) Waiting for a decent day to fly the EDF twister ( still makes me have the shakes - and whoever said it was a trainer is a liar... on 4 cells it's ballistic, and I fly on 4 cells! On 3 cells it's only the space shuttle on take off!!) It does look pretty on low passes though! Just wish I had the time to properly fly, rather than nipping of from work for half an hour or so...............

So the two smaller servos I ordered for the ailerons turned up yesterday morn and on friday a set of allen keys (hex keys, for our trans Atlantic readers). The hex screw that attached the motor to the motor mount was tiny and smaller than any allen key you get on a standard bunch. I know I have 3 bunches and not one that small. Anyway until I could remove the mount from the motor I cant attach the mount to the firewall.
I have fitted the servos, but am unhappy with the movement of the ailerons as one seems to move substantially more dan tuvva (Toff can translate! ;D )
I can adjust this on trim or servo travel but seems an extreme amount so I think I need to fiddle with the pushrod adjusments. Which isnt straight forward as they have Z bends so therefore limits your adjustment to complete turns, unless Im missing something? Feel free to correct me if I am.
The firewall looks pretty flat so was wondering whether I should include any of the oft discussed down to the right (pilots view) thrust angle, or whether it was pretty irrelevant on a plane this size?
Im also safe in the knowledge that I am very likely to stuff this plane first time I take it out and was wondering whether to give it a layer of ekonokote type covering as I have some transparent. I was unsure how easy that would be as the wing has the shape of the ribs moulded in so lots of very small contours!
As much as I will probably just tape the leading edges, I would be interested to hear from anyone who has covered a similar ribbed wing for any future advice.
Next issue is the battery box which is an extremely tight squeeze even with the tiny 850mah 2s nanotech batt I bought, it fits but very similar in its squeeze fit to the HZ SC.
Hmmm I think maybe I should have a more experienced pilot stood next to me when I maiden this....Nick!?

Oh and PS with regard to the diesel hatchback mentioned in the first post of this thread, I cleverly managed to put £30 of unleaded petrol in it last night....Waited 2 hours for the AA to tow me home, which they only agreed to do if I booked their decontamination service for this morning between 7.30 - 9am at the princely sum of £185. Before I called them I get to the next petrol station along the road and thought I might get her home if I filled the other half of the tank with diesel (after all these things will run on chip oil!). Alas there was only room in the tank for £20 of diesel, it wasnt enough vehicle would run no more and I was now in danger of flattening the battery. Last nights trip to town to drop a friend off should have taken 45 min there and back, it took 3hrs and cost £235 Ouch, ouch, ouch! Still hurting, please be gentle! Pass the Dunce hat! John

Oh and to add to it all, last Tuesday I was served 2 months notice (till 30th Sept) to vacate my property, due to my dog bothering the cattle in the field next door (mostly gay bullocks). It was an us or the dog situation with no compromise, either we get rid of the dog or go! .....I chose the dog....House hunting now Not a good week all in all! John
