Which do I MOD?

Hey Everyone. I am new to the site and hobby. So here is where i now stand, as far as my flying/modification career (of SC's go). On the 2nd flight of my SC (a week after i had it) it did a full throttle nosedive from about 20 ft up. The fuselage cracked in two spots, but did not separate. The engine mount is broken (motor is actually in pieces) and the pinion shaft is bent. The wing also broke clean off. i think the pins where the rubber bands attach are also broken...well the foam is broken where the pins attach, but the pins are intact. The battery cage is also looking like a piece of freight hanging off the belly of the plane. The foam is completely chewed up in this area (where the batt-cage attaches to the body).
Well, i have completely sweet-talked my wife into buying me (making a budget available) all the replacement pieces from Amazon, including a new fuselage.
Here is where I have a predicament that someone with experience may be able to help. Do i use the new fuselage as a perfect stock plane and do all my mods to the broken one, or vice versa? I never intended to do any types of mods, but after reading through all these posts, I am geeked about trying new stuff. even more now, since i have a secondary craft i can screw around with. So again, which craft do i mod? the already broken one? or the new one?

My concerns about the mod-ing the broken one is that i'll be using so much crap (epoxy etc.) on it is that if its modified, it may fly all screwy. But I also hate to mess with a perfectly good plane, hence my hesitance to modify the new one. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Also, I've already told the wifey that its a cheap hobby, but so far she has seen me buy almost two whole planes, (in two weeks). I'll have to lay low for a while before i can create a budget for mods. Anyone else have budgeting issues, or am i the only broke one here?

hello crashed again i would get some rapid epoxy and mend as much as you can, it will fly ok, on my d day cub i broke the tail clean off, epoxyed it on another occasion broke the wing in half glued it and i now have to fly with the rudder trim hard a stbd and it flys great main thing..... be patient.... wait for light winds, all the times i did damage was in wind, but these planes are very mendable and great trainers.. good tip cut the scoop off the bottom of the engine cowl it digs in and smashes the cowl..... best wishes and good flying pete ball plymouth devon england

Thanks for the tip on trimming the cowl. I have seen other people do it in the pics they've posted, but i couldn't figure out a reason (other than it might be for venting a BL motor). I'll try that.
If i didn't know better, i'd think you were spying on me.... My crashes were on windy days too!!! I guess most overly-anxious beginners make that mistake.

So which one do i mod? the new one that is being shipped, or the old one that i crashed?

i would mod the old one, its probably gonna meet the dirt a few more time while tweaking the mods so why mess up a nice new fuse. if you find something you really like you can apply it to the new one too, or just keep the fun plane and the show plane.

i would go with the old and battered till you get good at it , ive also got a pkz spitfire which looks superb ,had to put d day stripes on it cause it was hard to see it where i fly on dartmoor , the good thing is i use the spit batteries in the supercub and it works a treat......anyway keep at it the more you repair the less you have to spend, in uk bits are pricey and they take time to be delivered

I would glue and tape the old plane back together and learn to fly it stock. Then mod it a little at a time as you get comfortable with flying. Save the new fuse until you can fly with a greater degree of confidence or you might end up with two broken ones.

Kevin, your .02 is well heeded. I think i'll get better at crashing the old one before i venture out with the new one. Actually, the new one just got delivered about 15 mins ago, and although I am tempted to strap on the wings and take 'er up, I'd rather wait.
Hobbyzone had it delivered in 2 days and it was VERY WELL PACKAGED!!! I got it off Amazon.com. for 55.99 plus shipping. so it was $60.xx total.
BTW, if anyone buys off Amazon, there is a package tracker on their website to see the status of your delivery. If I were to follow that tracker, USPS still hasn;t picked up my package at HobbyZone yet (yet it is here at my home). So don;t go by the tracker, just have faith that it will be delivered SOON.
