Iv had my 2200 25c lipo packs for about 10months i first used them in my squall with no probs...then bought the phase3 ef16 airframe and used all the elecs fan/esc in the new airframe....since then the packs get puffed n hot n now only last about 2-3 mins...iv cut holes in the front for airflow over the lipo but has no effect,
are my lipos nealy dead?
Not too sure about the amps its pulling!
Could do with 2200 60c..

Hot + puffed = bad news. If they aren't lasting anymore, they are dying-fast. Discharge and discard or use in a low draw application IF and ONLY IF you are clear that a puffed lipo is not as safe as a non-puffed lipo. EDF + lame lipo > puffed lipo. One of the problems with EDF is they are amp hungry and you really need a GOOD (not just adequate) lipo to feed them. The batteries that the specs say will work....well, they often don't. Get a wattmeter. You need to know that info. BTW-the HK claims about the 'nano' lipos don't seem to be actually working out in real life. I'm not sure they did anything but change the marketing and the label. Not that they are bad batteries, they just ain't quite as super-duper-razoo-incredible as they claim to be. But then, ain't that the truth with most of their stuff.  |

Paul, whats the size of the fan on the EF16? And whats the KV of the motor?
My twister has a 70mm fan, and a 3600 KV motor. If I use a 20c 4s lipo, it gets hot'n'puffs. But a 25c gets warm, and thats it! Not sure, but is it designed for 3s lipos? EDF's are generally power hungry. Does it need a 4s (14.8v) to do it justice?

Its the fan/esc from my squall 3s 2200 25c recomended lipo... 70mm fan 5blade 3800kv motor..40amp esc Dont understand  Had a quick flight today n it neally hit the deck when one talearon got stuck on the surport..its got quite a lot of play not up n down.. but front to back! Needs sorting n just cracked the intake on emergency landing. |
