If anyone has thought about why should you waste your money on an AMA membership watch this video and read the article! wcbstv.com/local/local_story_137002709.htmlIf the government keeps over reacting about every single possible threat of danger we will lose our hobby. The AMA goes up against ignorant politicians. How would you like to go through a background check to buy a plane and be regulated on where you can fly it and what times? How would you like them to be illegal in your state? It could happen, maybe sooner than you think.

Glad to hear they mentioned that they might rely on users self-policing the activity.

Ya know....the news and media do more harm than good sometimes I think. I wonder how many terrorists were sitting there going "oh yeah...dah....good idea". Makes ya think.

They made it sound like anyone can go buy an RC plane that is capable of carrying 20 pounds of exsplosives and fly it into a school. They are trying to make the story seem like an urgent threat to give it credability. At OUR exspence. The NY senator is trying to put regulations on our hobby as we speak and he is not the only one.
Fact: while anyone can go buy an RC plane which is little more than a toy, You can't fly it right off the bat. It takes practice.
Fact:There is not now nor has there ever been a ready to fly airplane ever offered that can carry 20 pounds of cargo. I would highly doubt you could cram more than a pound in any ready to fly RC plane and it fly.
Fact: yes some radios have a range of up to 5 miles but if you can'y fly it you can't see it. Also you can not readily buy "real time" camera with a range of more than 2000 feet!
Fact: 20 pounds of exsplosives is hardly enough damage to make it worth while. Even if you flew it into a crowd of people you may kill a dozen or so and hurt others. Not exackly 9/11 is it?
Fact: If you want a plane to carry 20 pounds you have to build it which takes skill and practice, then you need to fly it which takes skill and practice, then you need to see it which takes camera equiptment you can't get, then the blast could kill a dozen people.
I don't think they are going to devote planning years of effort to harm a dozen people when a bomb in a breifcase while standing in line at Walmart would do more damage.

FACKIN MEDIA!!! FFS!
one thing ive realized after 8 months of flying the SC: i have a long way to go. i am hooked on this hobby, and i know it will take YEARS to become a fully skilled pilot capable of putting a model aircraft exactly where i want it to be.

Not exactly! I have been flying for only a year now and can fly a plane into a balloon 100yds away. Practice, practice, practice. I taught myself on a SC and now am ready to fly a 33% edge...
