Bought a SC on a LHS recommendation for my 9 year old to learn to fly (me to I guess).
On the first flight, I tossed and my son controlled. It was breezy, probably too breezy but I tossed it and bam, right into the ground. Second toss, bam, in the ground again. No broken parts, so we trimmed up the elevator to try again. Third toss and up it went, then it made a 180 turn and smashed right into a fence. Boy that was a short day. Only a broken prop and cowl.
Okay, new parts try again. This time we went to a different area, much more open space. Basically a development that never got any houses just roads and tall grass. Perfect place. Windy again, but here in FL, a non-windy day is rare. Okay, to this time I am controlling and tossing. First toss it goes into the ground. Trim up the elevator and up it goes on the second toss. New 8-cell pack really made this thing move fast. I was getting nervous and cut power, then the wind took it, it did some crazy stuff, which I might blame on the ACT now that I have read here some, and BAM it slams right into the pavement. Believe this, the prop did not break, but the fuselage broke off at the tail, the gear bent, the firewall cracked and came completely off the fuse, and of course the new cowl torn up. Basically it slammed into the deck on it's belly, because I spent about an hour taking the motor apart and digging asphalt out of the motor housing. Hammered the end plate straight and the motor still works.
Well, it is all glued back together and we are ready to try again, if the wind will ever cooperate. I was avoiding flying in the evening since I figured that would screw up the ACT, but I think I am going to turn it off this time.
