I wanted to put ailerons but using stock stuff.
Couldn't I make a homemade Y harness for the 5 wire stock servos and homemade wire extendors.
You'd be able to switch the servos wires around so one would turn one way and the other would turn the other way, right?
Does anyone know what each of the wires are for on the 5 wire servos, and possibly which two I would have to reverse to make them turn in opposite directions using the Y harness?
Final question, would adding the third servo draw too many amps through the rx? My guess is, probably not, it might heat up a little more than usual, but just thought I'd throw that in there as a discussion topic.
Finally, of course you wouldn't have rudder control...unless you wanted to add in a third servo into the Y harness...I guess it wouldn't be called at "Y" at that point, maybe a W harness...

Ambitious but likely a royal PITA. I wouldn't bother. If you MUST, just yank the rudder servo, and mount it in the wing with a torque rod, single servo, system. This is often used in a lot of planes, GWS being common. You may need to extend the wires but that's a lot simpler than inventing a Y on an unknown system. The 5-wire system is proprietary, not 'normal', and NEEDS the ESC/RX 'black box' to function.
Plugging it in and out of the ESC/RX mini-plug will be tiresome. The plug is lousy and will likely break with only a few uses.

Use the stock receiver for the ailerons, it plugs right into the system. All you need is a couple of servos and your done. No upgrade needed to the reciever. The stock system is ;D really a 4 channel system. Earl

I think you specifically mean the bind-and-fly version, right? That uses normal 3-wire servos and your TX would have 2 sticks.
The LP version is a single stick TX and this is not feasible.

He's right about the RTF version, it's all 5 wire stuff. I was looking to upgrade, but i still have some saving to do before i can get all the parts i need. I essentially have to replace everything...so my thought was, in the mean time i could buy another $10 servo, the 5 wire kind, and make the super cub with ailerons. The other bonus is, i've never flown a plane with ailerons, so i could use these stock parts to learn on, and then when i get all my upgrade parts i'll know how to fly better. Just seeing if anyone out there thinks this would work...not if it's a PITA, just if it would work (I know it would be a PITA).

I just cut the ailerons, added 2 servos, hooked up a harness and plugged it into my stock setup. Flying with ailerons is much easier. I did remove some of the dihedral from the wing. I just purchased this Super Cub LP last month from RC and Me. Great learning curve.
I due use a DX5.

Another consideration, no one knows what the BEC rating of the stock ESC is. HZ is not going to tell you. It obviously can handle 2 servos. Since it was originally designed for 7-cell NiMh it may be pushing it going to 3S lipo. We already know the ESC portion is on a fine edge. 3 servos may be a bit much for the BEC but may be OK, but I'm guessing. 4 servos absolutely would be too much.
There is a lot of stuff to learn in electrics. In the beginning folks are focused on lipos, motors, and 2.4 Spectrum. Stuff like ESC inner workings, BEC function, and balancing out all the parts of the power plant are mysterious and confusing so tend to be overlooked or ignored. They will come back and bite you if you don't pay attention.
I've never heard of anyone doing this and I read a lot in the forums. Most likely you are on your own. Please report back if you try it. It will be a new data point.
