I am thinking about changing my wing struts. I want to use fishing line or string with the swivel method. Do you experienced guys/girls have a preference? Thanks for your help.

String has to be replaced more often, because it stretches more easily. You can pick up the slack a bit by tying knots in it, but it still gets weaker as it stretches. I'd say about 6 pound mono fishing line is about the best

Dillzio, thank you for your reply. I just used the fishing line as you suggested and it seems like it should work great. I did noticed there is a little stretch in the fishing line, will that affect the flight at all?

nah, a little stretch is fine, and it doesn't need to be overly tight either. Just enough to prevent the wing from getting too badly bend during high-G maneuvers.

I used fishing leader lines. They are made of steel and don't flex like fishing string. Also, they have a snap swivel quick connect for easy connecting.

That's a great idea too. Thanks for the picture, that helps a lot!

Thank you both for your help. I have flown a few times with the new fishing line struts and it seems great. Any chance I can blame the new struts for it getting stuck in a tree?

If you get stuck in a tree the struts will often snag on a branch making removing it very difficult. I find it's best to connect the struts to each other (rather than the battery box) with a paper clip that can be forced open without too much effort.

I am a fan of fishing line. I go way overkill and use a 60lb line wraped once around the stock scew on the battery box. Works great for me.

I have some experience using fishing line. I used it to make a set of struts for my skyfly2 and it worked really well. If I had the money I would buy the lead centered fishing line so that it is stronger than the regular fishing line.

Pro's and Cons for everything!!! Fishing line sounds great and even using 60lb test sounds fantastic untill you crash. The stock original cub struts are made to break and absorb the pressure and forces associated with an impact. I have snapped a couple on ocassion and when I think back, I'm glad I did not have fishing line. IMHO fishing line is an "ok" idea that can lead to more costly damage in the end. Ifly
