It was windy all day, so I was thinking I would have to pass yet again. So this evening, I got home from work, and it suddenly dawned on me that there was hardly any wind I ran in the door, grabbed the Cub, screwed the wing on (no rubber bands!), ran out the door and got half way to the field when I realized I had forgotten my radio Finally, I got to the flying field about a mile from my house, and the weather was absolutely beautiful. Did a quick preflight check, and range check (all new electronics), went WOT, held my breath, and chunked it! It climbed super quick with the Lipo/Park 450 combo, and was amazing!! It was almost perfectly trimmed right out of the gate, even after epoxying aluminum supports in the wing, adding reinforcements to the wing mount, adding bolts to do away with the rubber bands, replacing all the electronics, changing to the brushless/lipo combo, adding strip mounted ailerons, etc, etc, etc... It'll almost climb vertically, but not quite, rolls great, super quick turns, and does anything I am brave enough to try. I am stoked!! Sorry for the long post, but I just had to tell someone ;D ;D

I think my wife's digi cam has a video capture function on it, but she never lets me touch it. I think she knows I'll try to figure out a way to hot rod it! I'll see what I can do.

So, do you think it is better to mod the Cub (still a foamy plane) rather than get a bigger, better plane? Seems like a lot of money and effort considering what you end up with. No disrespect intended. I have one too. I'm just thinking it might make more sense to get the next, better airplane.

If you can sucessfully make your own ailerons and fly with them, the the next step will be lots less expensive. I have lots of bigger and better planes but love the SC with all the mods best. It is what it is......a great plane. Beauty is in the eye.............of?

Stan, I agree that modding the cub is kinda stepping in the wrong direction. I did buy a Hobbico Electristar, and had it up and going before disabling the cub. I am new to RC planes and am learning so I figured if I messed up the wing or fuse trying to modify it, it would be relatively lower cost to replace it and start over (or put it back stock). And if I screw up the aerodynamics or stability and it meets the ground unexpectedly hard, it still is relatively cheap to replace. I did just put my Electristar into the ground, because of a rookie mistake that probably should have happened to the cub instead of a $350 plane... Come to think of it, I do probably have about $350 in the cub

Hello could you post a photo and more info on how you reieforced the wing mounts and how you used bolts to attach the wing as they sound like good mods. Thank you
